Custom Cue Problems..

If you start telling the cuemaker what glue and threads to use, it may be a bit much.
If you want a certain taper on the cue or woods/wrap used, that is all up to the customer unless there is a reason the cuemaker does not want to do what you ask. For example you want a non-cored full ebony cue with a thick butt that is 17oz overall weight. That may be a bit tough to do hehe.
Make out a basic design, or a full one, give list of woods/materials, and let them at it. You can have as much input as you want in the cue, you want certain colors or patterns in the rings, let them know. You want exactly 4 star shaped inlays 2" from the wrap, let them know. If you want them to design something, tell them I like Ebony, Bubinga and Maple, leather wrap with roundish inlays and see what they come up with.

Depends on if you told the cue maker exactly what to do or not.
If I commissioned a cue maker that I wanted a 19.6oz, 57 3/4" cue, made from balsa wood; Then I would expect that exact cue. However, I'm not that picky and I am willing to allow certain tolerances to be altered.
I have a cue in the build process, right now, and I have allowed the cue maker to collaborate with me on certain aspects of the cue. I request progress pictures every now and then, to make sure we are on the same page.

This is absolutely correct.
It all starts with how detailed your spesifications are.
How good you and the cuemaker communicates through out the process is also very important.
If your a truly anal perfectionist, I would recomend you find a local cuemaker or be willing to travel, so you can speak to him or her in person.

If someone asked me for a cue out of balsa wood , and to weigh 19.75 , I would ask if they had any objection to Lead tire weights and Duck tape .

…I've bought several cues from my cuemaker, and when we have been talking about the design or weight or shafts he did exactly to the millimeter and single gramms what I wanted.
Another thing is, as you tell the cuemaker to build a certain design and say, this should the cue look alike. So there's more free room for interpretation…

You missed the key word however, before that sentence. Anyone who asks for a cue made of Balsa wood needs to be questioned, but I was trying to make a point.
