Custom Cue

Well I did it, I finally laid down some cash to have a custom cue made!

There is a cue maker here in my town that is inexpensive compared to other cue makers, and he is very good at what he does. I decided to let him make me a cue about a year ago. I am so excited, like a kid waiting to open Christmas presents.

I bought two OB-1 shafts at 12.2mm (I shoot with a 12mm now), and then told Willee what I kind of wanted for a butt. I am more concerned with the joint, shafts, and weight than anything else. I kind of left everything else up to his creative desire. I am sure he will come up with something nice. I put a down payment on it last night, and now I have to wait 2-3 weeks! I am going to get more excited every week I know it! LOL

I will have to post pics once it it done, but I am sure many of you can relate to my excitement.

C'mon, c'mon. Give us the cuemakers name and/or website if he has one. We want to see the whole scope of his work (and of course, your cue too!!!).

Sounds great!!! I envy you guys in the US that you can try cues and talk to these cuemakers directly and find great cues. It's a lot harder in New Zealand as all we use are Predators and the odd Taiwanese wood joint and a couple of Southwests :p

I know what you mean, back in 1996 I ordered a custom from my local cue maker and I could not wait for it to be done. I picked the Cocobolo and
Ivory points with 2 shafts and Cocobolo joint protectors.

I could not wait for it to be done, and when it was the balance was perfect and the hit was just what I was looking for.

It even made the local newspaper and TV news, cause they were doing a piece on him.

I keep a copy of the article & picture in the case.

It was worth the wait.:)
 
If you read the post he mentions Willie... So I will assume it is the World Famous Willie Cue!! ... Come on barefoot show us some pics of what ya been doing !!!

He posts in here a bit too, and yes he makes really good playing cues. I have shot with a couple, and I really like them. The other thing is the price. He has only been doing it about 6 years, and his price isn't as great as some of the others. You know the people that already have made a name for themselves. Besides who wouldn't want a cue from a barefooted cue maker? LOL
 
It's always nice to support the local cuemakers if they do quality work.

Willee cues are nice .... sometimes trippy ... but I have a couple of 'em and they are fine.

What you mean sometimes trippy? I know that there are a lot of cues I don't like their design, but as far as craftsmanship he is very good in my opinion. Besides I don't have it to shell out $3000 for a cue from someone else that has made a name for themselves. LOL :cool:
 
Shafts

Well my shafts should be in my cue makers hands today sometime. I am getting more antsy each day! Like I said before I am like a kid waiting on Christmas. :cool:
 
Waiting

Well Willee called me up about a week ago and we discussed the design and what it is going to look like. He showed me the forearm and butt in peices. It was neat to see it coming together.

It is a Bocote wood with tourquoies and ivory (look alike ivory, I didn't want the real thing to save on cost) inlays phenolic and silver rings. And an irish linen wrap.

It looks pretty cool, and now I have an idea what it will look like when finished.

Now all I have to do is be patent and wait. :eek: AWWWWWWW that is going to be the hard part! LOL

Wow that is fast.....I had to wait 9 months for my latest cue to be finished......(but its finally done and on its way to me)...

I just posted in here about waiting for my cue, and Willee just sent me an e mail stating that all the inlays are done. I get to go see what progress has been made! Heck yea, I am out of hear to go drool!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, well Willee is a great guy. He does what he says he will do, and I laid down some green before hand just to show him I was serious, and that I wanted to get one ASAP. I am so anxious to actually get to use my OB-1 Shafts!

9 months is quite long, most of the wait was for inlays that had to be sent out for cutting on a special machine.

However...and I am not cue expert, I kind of always thought there was a certain amount of "curing" time for wood as it is turned down assembled etc. and then the finish process I don't think is a one time spray and done...I believe it may be up to 7 or 8 coats with drying time inbetween.

Perhaps he has pre treated wood or prepared blanks he is using.
 
Not to change the subject and all...

But would you happen to know how much a Judd Cue would cost? Say for instance like Efren's cue.
