Custom cues on layaway?

QShark

Suspected Scammer
Hi,

There are so many custom cues that I want north of $3k as of late. Ones from Gold Rush, Aaron Astle, Zen and North Demon come to mind.

Is there anyone or place that offers these on a layway plan? Like an "X" amount non-refundable deposit down?

Thanks,

I think 'lay away' is deader than HulaHoop. Don't know any one/place that still does it. Used to a bunch when i was kid(60's-'70s).

Thank you. I actually found one place/person who says every cue in his inventory can be financed or put on Layaway. It's name is "Crossroad Cues".

I'm looking at their FB Page (https://www.facebook.com/crossroadgallery/followers) and their website of crossroadcues.com now and they state" "payment plans/layaway on ALL products" but every single time I'm interested in a cue, and reach out, they tell me "no" payment plans or layaway for this "particular" cue. I've shown interest in literally 7 cues - same answer. False advertising if you ask me. Too bad, as they have some really nice customs.

Called them? Those cues may be consignment items thus no layaway.

I bought a cue from Crossroad Cues on layaway and Eddie was a pleasure to do business with. The cue I bought was a Douglas Moore at around $1100 though not anything near 3k. I've done several deals with them that were great. Just keep checking with them and I bet they'll be able to take care of you at some point. Good luck
👍

Most guys will take payments as long as the time limit isn’t ridiculous (60-90 days usually) and they get to hold the merchandise until paid in full. Sometimes it’s the only way to move tough to sell pricier cues. Both parties can win in those situations. Likely will not happen on hot cues like SW and the sort. Never hurts to ask and supply references! 🤷‍♂️

Cornerstone Cues, apparently now inactive, used to accept installment payments but of course, you did not receive the
cue until it was paid for. I bought my Ed Prewitt from Bill on installment since my trade in (Paul Mottey) only covered 1/2 of the Prewitt cue price. Over the course of 6 months, I paid off the balance and received the cue which is still with me.
I ever had any issues with Bill Grassley and purchased several cues from him. Every purchase always went seamlessly.

Most custom cue makers have a fairly lengthy delivery period.

Why not order what you want, and simply tuck away X number of dollars a month in a shoebox until your cue is ready?

Or if you would rather, send that same X number of dollars to the maker every month until it's ready to be delivered.

<<snip>>

Sometimes as long as never...:oops::rolleyes:

I've done layaway with some buyers, everyone's circumstances are different and to me it was not a big deal to let the payments come in over some months if a guy needed the time.

And on top of making a sale, oftentime you made a friend, as well.

best,

I think the majority of the guys who deal in heavy volume on Facebook will let you make payments over time with a non-refundable deposit. Now, whether that's actually a good idea is another question - because they consider themselves "dealers" you're overpaying for just about anything they offer. What you get from that premium is dealing with someone who is reputable, and you can rest assured they won't screw you in any way other than financially.

Over here someone like Martin Bick at Superior Cues @jazznpool may offer something like that, as well as Jose @itzel0101 - you might check with them, as I can't say for sure if they would.

I’ve done it myself, but only for friends. I’ve also paid a friend over time for a Tascarella. 500/mo til it was done.

If you want a cue purchased on your behalf and paid off, PM me and let's talk.

I did a layaway for many years but stopped it about 3 years ago. Too many guys were backing out over and over, tying up my resources and creating extra bookeeping work. The deposit was supposed to be non-refundable but I never kept anyone's money. I just keep it simple now.

Understandable

Funny you mention that. when I dealt with Bob Owen and Jerry Rauenzahn in 2014 and 2016 as both were making me customs I designed (4 cues), the total bill was steep. So what I arranged was quarterly installments while the cues were being made. The average completion time was 15 months and I placed a 20% down with the cue orders. By the time the cues were completed, all of my cues had balances remaining under $300. And along the way, I got to chat with Bob and Jerry monthly and received lots of progress photos of my cue builds. It was financially so much easier to complete payment that way.

Imo, layaway is asking for complications for both parties.

Save the money, buy what you can afford when you can afford it.
