What's hot these days in terms of cuemakers, cue designs, construction techniques, parts, etc.? Some of my observations:

Hot:

-3/8-11 or Radial pin
-Re-cut points
-Wrapless cues utilizing highly figured woods

Not:

-Stainless steel joints
-5/16-18 pin

Hot or Not

Sure seems like the entire market is NOT hot. Maybe I'm on crack but $350 for a Ray Schuler is definitely low. The guy is in the cuemaker's hall of fame!! Apparently, the 'HOT' thing is rock bottom prices.

Its a Schuler SLC not a Schuler

Big Difference if you want my opinion !!

Hot:
Gilbert
Mottey
Szamboti (both)
Murrell
Tad
Schick

Not:
Jensen
Blud (other than his sneakys)
Espiritu
Dayton
McDaniel

Scruggs are kinda stuck in the middle, although one cue dealer insists on raising the prices, nobody seems to want to pay that. His sneakys are selling good, but a few people are trying to hoard them.

BCM is my pick to be the next hot cuemaker...he just does good finish work and uses excellent woods. He has to come out of the woodwork soon enough, pun intended.

Just my observations of the cue market over the last few months....no flames needed.

Good post Shorty. I think Zylr, Searing, Bluegrass and maybe Black Boars are hot as well. I think Scruggs used to be hot until he raised the prices. What I consider as hot means that once a cue is placed for sale, it's usually sold promptly.

Couldnt agree with you more. Scruggs definately lost my vote once he raised his prices. Bluegrass is hot now because he's no longer taking anymore orders. Ive been trying to find one of his sneakys for the longest. I always seem to miss them. Gilbert is definately hot now considering his prices. I have to say that Viattorre is getting a lot of attention now

Searing definately hot...

Hot for the future... James White... IMO

Not hot... Runde... Coker

I think Runde Cues will do well in the future, but maybe the retail price is a bit high... probably why McDaniel cues aren't so hot right now as well

I do agree about Viattorre getting some attention. Not sure how their cues play though. Bluegrass's are hot as well...but damn expensive it seems.

I think SW will always be hot...just one of those cues that everyone seems to love playing with and collecting.

Yep Viattorre is getting real popular. I'm still waiting on his reply to see how much my cue is gonna be with the specs that I gave him. He replied once to tell me that he is real busy and apologized. I wrote him back and told him no worries and that I understood. If anybody out there wants one, you should order now cause the wait has grown to 7 months. Soon to be a year. Next thing you know it will be several years like SW...

Should we deal with this like in the stock market? Buy low and sell high? Should we sell the hot cues that we have and stock up on the not so hot?

They play damn well Shorty. I was actually amazed at how well but for the price I had to give them a try. No regrets.

I think Searing and Hercek, Szamboti and Schick et al. will always be hot.

I agree with the original poster in that SS joints are not hot but that is not keeping me from going back to them. I've tried the wood to wood and just like SS more.

What I think is hot and not.....

Cues I think are hot:

Bluegrass
Samsera
McWorter
JW (Way pricey)
Gilbert
PFD Studios

Up and comers
BLACKCREEK, BCM, JOHN MADDEN

Not Hot:

PRICES OF ORIGINAL RAY SCHULERS!

SouthWest is Popular.....

HOT

SouthWest
SouthWest
SouthWest

:D

NOT

All the Cues on e-bay that there are WAZOO of, or the one that are listed over, and over again.......... ;)

Cues popularity like the Stock Market, go up and Down like the Stock Market....

What's hot and not

IMHO
Hot:
Mottey
Omega/dpk
Gilbert, especially J/B
Stacey sneaky petes
James White
Searing
Szamboti
Hercek
Tad
Ginacue

Not hot: (meaning that you can get a good deal on a very well made cue, but you won't be able to make much money on a resale)
Bender
Scruggs
Cognescenti
McDaniel
PFD
Coker
Shurtz
Omen
Jensen

Cues I wouldn't buy unless I could get them at 10% of the retail price:
Any cue from the Phillipines
Dale Perry

Shorty,
Just an FYI, Scruggs raised his prices because Lucky urged him too.. So your statement stating that "one cue dealer insists on raising the prices" is off the mark!! Dealers have to advertise his cues at his prices because if you dont, you get cut-off!! Whatever the cue is sold for is between the dealer and the buyer but it has to be advertised at Scrugg's retail price.

Hell I would take a ss jointed Gina, Schick, B. & G. Szam, Hercek any day!!!

Sorry to disappoint...but it ain't always about you, don't turn into Jimbo Jr. on me, Erik. My post and .50 will almost buy you a cup of coffee anywhere.

One cuemaker told me that the reason you don't see many SS joints is because they are more difficult to make right. The other joints are easier and therefore you see more. It is like a snowball rolling down hill. As players see more they think that they are better, therefore they will buy one because they see others using them. I started with a SS joint. Tried others and am now back to the SS.

The same goes for cues. I have never heard of Murrel cues until this forum got blasted with threads about them. All of a sudden they got hot??? Why? The only reason I can think of is because of all the posts about them.

Your selling yourself short shorty

Your post must be worth something because it is getting rare to find a place that sells coffee for .50 or less.
