Hey Shorty...I'm disappointed! You left me outta here next to Jimbo. Looks like you have a hard-on for EVERYONE today. Get your ass under control.

What's hot these days in terms of cuemakers, cue designs, construction techniques, parts, etc.? Some of my observations:

Hot:

-3/8-11 or Radial pin
-Re-cut points
-Wrapless cues utilizing highly figured woods

Not:

-Stainless steel joints
-5/16-18 pin

IMHO Skip Weston's stock will definitely skyrocket when the 3rd edition of the Blue Book of Pool Cues is published. I think that when people can see the construction of his cues, finish and design work, that he will be inundated with work. His points are really the best in the business and the playability of his cues are second to none. Don't think that stainless steel joints are "out of vogue" but as someone in this thread said they are harder to do well. Skip does flawless stainless steel joints as well as flatfaced or piloted joints. If you like "old school" players type cues he is definitely the guy to see.

I have to agree here. I think Skip's cues will become highly sought after before too long, especially since now that his 'production', as it were, is down to roughly 20-30 cues a year now that he is not doing it full-time anymore.
Another maker I feel that is under-rated and will surely make the mark is Paul Fanelli..his work is simply phenominal..others try to duplicate, but just don't quite pull it off like Paul does.
Lastly, I think the 'dark horse' here will be Travis Nickolich...hope I spelled that right..of Black Creek Cues. He is doing some incredible work for a 'kid'...very talented.

Just my take on things, but what would I know?! :)

Good post Shorty. I think Zylr, Searing, Bluegrass and maybe Black Boars are hot as well. I think Scruggs used to be hot until he raised the prices. What I consider as hot means that once a cue is placed for sale, it's usually sold promptly.
Add Eddie Prewitt to that list. Good luck in finding one.
Lambros are hot. So are Judd and SW imo.

Hot:
Mottey
Omega/dpk
Gilbert, especially J/B
Stacey sneaky petes
James White
Searing
Szamboti
Hercek
Tad
Ginacue

Not hot: (meaning that you can get a good deal on a very well made cue, but you won't be able to make much money on a resale)
Bender
Scruggs
Cognescenti
McDaniel
PFD
Coker
Shurtz
Omen
Jensen

Cues I wouldn't buy unless I could get them at 10% of the retail price:
Any cue from the Phillipines
Dale Perry
Are you saying you wouldn't buy a Viattorre cue? Yeah not too sure about resell value, but I don't think I would resell mine when I get it...

you guys are crazy!

Determining wether or not a cuemaker is hot or not is totally subjective. Ive never met a cuemaker that didnt sell everything he made. One more thing call one of these not hot cuemakers and see if you can get a cue in a month or two, not gonna happen.

home town guy

I've owned several cues and IMHO my Dz (Bob Dzuricky) hits and looks as good as any and is a true bargain for the price. In the future Im sure my play cue will be worth far more than I payed.....but, I will never sell it. :p

Who is the hot cuemaker??

I'm going to say Dan Janes or Evan Clarke will sell more cues than anyone else listed on here...gross more money...and probably net more money over the next 5 years also.
But what do I know...it's just a guess like all the rest. (OK, OK...they're not new. My statement still stands)

How about point construction, CNC vs. hand-cut... what's hot right now?

Hot:

-Titlist conversions or Hoppe-style cues
-Simple cues with an emphasis on exotic, highly-figured woods

Not:

-Sledgehammers
-Uni-loc pins
-Jump cues

pretty hot or not?

Scruggs are kinda stuck in the middle, although one cue dealer insists on raising the prices, nobody seems to want to pay that. His sneakys are selling good, but a few people are trying to hoard them.

BCM is my pick to be the next hot cuemaker...he just does good finish work and uses excellent woods. He has to come out of the woodwork soon enough, pun intended.

Just my observations of the cue market over the last few months....no flames needed.

Shorty
Shorty,
Just your observations of the cue market? Please, Shorty, please!
Making this type of a statement, means you know who has sold what to whom, and for how much also, right shorty?

Another words your clocking all the cuemakers? No one can do that or does that shorty.

I don't understand why you can sit there and say my cues are not hot.

Have you seen my order list? No, sir I don't think you have. It's privy to me and my son only.

After all some folks might be sucked in by your gossup.

I have about 40 cues in the works at this writting.

You guys may disagree with what I have to say, but here goes, and so be it.

Shorty, it's people like you who do not have a clue as to how hot my cues are, and what you say is bull s****.

What you say has an adverse affect on my business. [ and all the otherscuemakers you mentioned ].

You sit back and write whatever you please and care not how it affects ones income. Does this make you proud??????

Turn this around, Shorty, if you were a cuemaker, would you like these types of negitive comments made about your products, by someone who does not know for a fact what is what?

No Shorty, you wouldn't like it either.

I would apperciate it if you would keep me out of your BS, loop.

If you knock me, I have no control so over that, but your coming here stating that my cues are not hot.

What gives you the right to say this?????

No one sir, no one has the right to JUDGE anothers business in such a manor. NO ONE.

Think about it Shorty, your only hurting a mans income who is trying to feed his family. I guess your proud of that?

blud

I have to say that Blud's cues are one of the easiest cues to move of anyones. I have several, have sold a lot, have some being made by Blud right now, and will continue to do so in the future. Comments that I personally hear from the players that I know are "Damn!! That hits good", and one time "My momma's gonna kill me, but I gotta have that cue!!"...true quote by a 50 year old man who borrowed a Blud from me for a $1000 snooker match and won with the cue.

Everyone is indeed entitled to their opinions, and everyone's is different. Without differing tastes, etc, there would not be so many cuemakers in the market. I am an advocate of billiards and cuemakers, so take my personal comments for what you will, but IMHO, Blud makes a hell of a cue.

Puck, truer words have not been spoken on this thread, IMHO.

What constitutes "hot" anyways? Is it the number of cues (custom only) that we can sell in our particular market? Is it the collectability of the cue? Is it the legendary status of the cuemaker? Is it the apparent rise (awaiting a fall?) of a hot, new cuemaker?

Seriously, what is it that we are giving an opinion on at to "hot" cuemakers. I move a lot of cues, and yet have no experience with many of the cuemakers often referred to. Does that mean they are no good...absolutely not!! I just want to buy and sell those cues which I have a proven demand for in my market...to me, those are "hot"!!

ACTUALLY Blud you do have control......Shorty has slandered you and Quite possibly hurt your income and when he did that on a forum well known to many of the cu collectors in this country.....he made himself liable, for those comments.

All you would have to do is find someone willing to admit that they didnt buy your cue because of his comment and everyone one that you find that says that he would be liable for because he stopped your sale with an illegal comment wether meant that way or not.

My wifes cousin is a Head district attorney , and he said this same thing to me, and also I have seen other people sued on forums for the same thing.

If he has cost you a dozen sales and you can prove it then he would have to buy those cues. I know this is none of my buisness , but as a company owner ( construction ) I cant stand the way some people just do what they want no matter how much money they cost you.......they draw there check every week from their company as they work like drones, and never consider how a loss of 15-20 cues can change your whole yealy profit or loss . and Yes that makes me just as mad as you

And the defense against this type of junk is negated , because the law says willful ignorance or unaware ignorance is not a defense

You may want to think about this just for the fact of keeping the next moron from running his mouth agaisnt a man trying to earn a livin.......Its one thing to state a fact that a person has cheated them its another to just state a damaging opimiom.

ASK OPRAH IF SHE WILL EVER STATE THAT ABOUT BEEF AGAIN.......it cost her hundreds of thousands to defend that lawsuit , and if she wasnt Oprah she would have lost........and Shorty aint Oprah :D :D :D :D

Sheesh. Shorty has an opinion and expressed it. I don't see anything here except a basic first amendment issue quickly forgotten in the midst of hurt feelings and loosely-used 2nd-hand legalese.

I couldn't agree more. Frankly, there was nothing even close to Slander, just a stated opinion of what's "hot" and what's not, from one collectors perspective. This is 100% protected under the First.

Even IF he wrote something like "in my opinion, XYZ Cues suck the big long green weenie of life. They play like wet noodles and look like elephant dung. they're not worth a nickle-two-fifty and you shouldn't even consider them buying one cause they're better suited for firewood..." It's STILL not slander. It's free speech.

You're kidding right?

I think you've been watching too much Judge Judy.

Wait, was that slander as well? Please don't sue me.

When a living maker's no points cues sell for over a grand FAST AND EASY, I say he's hot.
My 2 cents.
