Custom Pool Room

Here are pics of the skirts while I was working on them. Seeing the wood sanded nice and smooth reminds me of why I decided to tackle this enormous project. Mahogany is a very pretty wood with hardly any wood grain at all.I'm excited because this is my first project ever working with Mahogany I just hope they come out as nice as I envision them to be.

Here are pics of the other pieces after I stripped the finish. The ball holders are going to be a doozie!

The legs are a solid block of Moahogany, which is a shame they won't be seen cuz I think they are going to come out really nice.

This all looks so great...

If I were you, when all this were done I'd just sit in the room looking at it all with a goofy grin on my face, occasionally muttering "did I really do all this?"

I wish I could be there to give you a standing ovation when this project is all over! Just know that we are all in awe of your work and dedication on this project.

This thread could and should go down as the best thread of all time! They should make a hall of fame thread section, cause this and a couple of others definitely belong in there!

Keep swimming brother!

Mahogany seems to age so gracefully, with an understated character. It is nice to see you give it a fresh start. Should return many years of enjoyment. Hope it meets your expectations.

As always very nice work. I have the up most respect for you and your talent and this thread is one of the main reasons I come on this site anymore. I hope you don't mine I would like to put this link on another site I am on to be able to share it with others out in the world. It is amazing to see this thing come together. To be honest I hoe you never finish  I don't know what I will do when you get done. I would love to be there for the grand opening as well as many others on here. Great work Sir! I applaud you :clapping::clapping:

Based on your craft, skill and creative flair am i the only one curious how the rest of your house looks like?

No your not the only one. I remember in a past post he mentioned he built his house too when refering to permits and codes or what not. One can only imagine.

BTW dsoriano, have you ever considered opening to the public and offering a type of club membership to help recoup some of your expenses?

I'd say it's a good thing I don't live "near Austin, Texas". You would have to have the police drag me kicking and screaming away from your pool room!

Hey Cuemister, I’ve had a lot of people try to convince me of that, but this project has been a labor of love that my family and friends can enjoy so I feel no need to recoup the cost. I dont see it as an investment that needs to pay out monetarily. The payout is, I have a custom pool room thats going to offer years and years of enjoyment that I built next to nothing so I don’t see it as money lost.
And I think the main reason I haven’t considered it is, the room is an extension of my home it would feel awkward opening it up to the public.
Thanks

Can't do that...not a business/ zoning, etc.

Besides, I don't want a bunch of drunken monkeys wandering in and out of my new home!

Great attitude! Too many people look at everything in financial terms.

Drunken Monkeys, lol

BTW I don't want the anyone to get the wrong idea when I said 8k is next to nothing, to explain my view here's an example, my back neighbor wanted to build a family room addition (14x28) to his home. Several contractors quoted him 50,000 for a plain open room. Thats nearly half the size of my room with no craftsmanship work. Heck I’ve watched TV shows where people have spent 50k on kitchen remodels, and 20k on bathrooms!! See? Comparing what I got for under 8 grand, thats next to nothing.

Just a quick update, i spent the weekend sanding, a few hours Sat, five hrs Sun and three last night. My goodness, I think building the room was much easier than refinishing these tables. I'll post pics of the pieces soon and try to include before and afters. I'm looking forward to picking up the trim pieces from the powder coater soon. Hopefully Thursday.

Thanks...

... you've ruined my perception of what constitutes a "nice pool room".

It would be awesome to compile your pics throughout this project and have them in one place (it took me over an hour of viewing this thread to scan messages and view the pics, lol).

8k? I'm having a hard time not coveting :)

Timmy - I had the same thought and suggested it to Dsoriano some time back. Since he is so busy working on the project and hasn't had the time to do so yet, I thought I would save him some time & effort and put the slideshow together myself. I've been working on it for the past week or so and have it ready. Here is the link -

Sorry guys, but by request, the link and video have been removed!
He says he'll do one himself some day when he's ready!

So far he has 440 photos posted so even though each photo is only up for 2 secs. the video is still 15 mins. long. As he adds more photos I will update the video.

Its nice you did this, but did you ask dsoriano what he thought of the idea first? I know there are no copyrights on his photos and anything posted on the net is pretty much up for grabs but I think we should consider his feelings in respect to the photos he's posted here on AZ. I personally think you did a good job and it must have taken you a while, but he's done so much for the AZ community I'd hate for him to feel any regret of ever sharing his project with us. Just a thought.

No, I didn't ask him first, I kind of wanted it to be a surprise, but as soon as I finished it and got it posted today I did send him a PM to let him know about it, and to let him know that when the project is 100% complete and all the photos he wants to post are posted that I could go back and add some music of his choice to it if he wants. Also if he's not happy that I did this for him, I will be happy to take it down, or edit it anyway he wants me to.

It would be kinda cool to have one of those digital picture frames up in the new room with all those pics in it.

Now that'd be way cool. I never thought about that.
Well here are more pics of the progress on the tables. I'd say Im about 80% done with sanding and I should start staining soon. I did try out the Red Mahagony stain color and was VERY pleased with the results.
Here I applied the stipper to the legs and I was just waiting for it to do its job. It starts bubbling around 20 min after applying.
