On thursday my three year old 4hp Shop-vac stopped working. It doesn't get a lot use because is hooked up to the band saw on a double stage system. The on/off switch was the problem. I by-passed the switch and called Grizzly, they said that they don't carry parts for it but they gave me Shop-Vac telephone number. It seems all the service centers are in Canada.
So by now I'm expecting a long tedious process.
The guy at Shop-vac says they don't carry small parts(before I can open my mouth and tell him what I think) he says" I'll Fedex the whole top of the vacuum including the cord"
Wow!

Saturday morning it arrives, wow, the complete top, and 6hp instead of 4hp. I couldn't believe it.

Damn...and the switch on mine just gave out too...but I shelled out for a new vac. Glad I kept the broken one...pm me the number & I'll see if they'll replace mine as well.

That is refreshing. In my experience:

Good:
Dewalt
Grizzly
Jet
Sharp

Bad:
Bogen-lost a 800 dollar strobe and took forever to do the right thing, also inept at sending out correct parts
Canon-1d MK3:if you know, then you know. Been back to service 4-5 times. They can't even get the grip tape on properly. Had charging problem. They sent it back without calling and told me it was the charger, yet the battery was returned dead. They should know right? Bought new charger.... Battery was a dud. Took several hours and explaining why I should be sent a new battery before they finally broke down. BTW, I have over 20K in Canon bodies ALONE.
Dell-IS YOUR COMPUTER PLUGGED IN? (insert any hard to understand accent)

Great avatar pic there Mr. Thighs! Never seen anyone put a saddle on a sheep before...bet your kid loved it.

Which reminds me, I need a bigger shop vac. Do they make them in quiet models. Mine sounds like you're standing beside a 747 taking off.
I wear ear plugs while I'm cleaning.

KV,
Seriously, you think that's a sheep? That's a pony. Lol
Though kids do ride sheep also, just bareback.

When Kevin was a little boy he wanted a pony. His Dad didn't have enuff money so he bought Kev a sheep. Thats were it comes from, he doesn't know the difference.
I guess Kevin kinda got fleeced so to speak.

I bought a very quiet 5.5 hp Shop Vac contractor vac...It is quiet for sure but it has low suction and the filter clogs very, very quickly. That is the price you pay for quiet. I won't use it

I'm replacing it with a smaller Rigid

I've got an old Hoover up-right Convertible sweeper that I bought in a 2nd hand store in 1994. It still vacuums great with it's beater bar but they no longer make bags for it. I bought a new vacuum with a Hepa-filter and all of that junk and the longest it will run is about 30 or 40 seconds before the filter is clogged up and it will no longer work. I just love new technology.

Ridgid is hard to beat as far as cost and lasting power. But I love Shop-vac :) noise and all.

Yup, that was her first real pony ride when we went to Indonesia last month, she's 2½. Before that, she only rode on carousels at the mall. If we can get the space for it in a few years, I'll buy her a pony of her own
