Stumbled across this vid from '11. Thought it might be of interest to some folks. Here's Josh Treadway bandsawing a southwest in half that had a warp in the handle area before it was repaired by Jim Buss.

My heart dropped a little as the blade sliced through the handle, lol.
What's the point in doing this?
I was hoping he'd go long ways across, not this.
I'd rot in hell before I'd let anyone other than the original maker cut a cue in half and repair it unless he was dead

To put a new handle on it cause it's warped - good as new(as far as being straight)

That's interesting. Especially considering it was on this very forum
that I was told that any cue maker would be seriously bad if he
made a butt that ended up warping.
It happens to all of them(cuemakers). Some cuemakers go the extra mile(years) to make sure it doesn't happen, but it still can. Other makers crank them out and it happens more often, hence the "bad cue maker"
Good cuemaker = very, very few warping
Bad cuemaker = well, you understand
Good or bad cuemakers have no control over how owners care for them.
I've seen a Szamboti broken in half over a $50 one-pocket game...
i've seen a top of the line ivory jointed Joss smashed over a garbage can...$5 a game.
...people like this tend to leave their cues anywhere...hot, cold, or humid.
No wooden cue is warp proof .It happens to all of them(cuemakers). Some cuemakers go the extra mile(years) to make sure it doesn't happen, but it still can. Other makers crank them out and it happens more often, hence the "bad cue maker"

SW takes 10 years to make cues . 10 years. They are not rushing nothing.
We don't know how the owner treated that cue .
You have to take care of your SW a little better than other cues.
SW cues are not cored .
They are made in Nevada, a dry place.
If you leave them in your car in St Louis during a hot wet summer day, it might just warp.
That being said, cored cues are less prone to warping.
Or cues made in areas where humidity and heat are not extreme.
Where Tad's and Gina's shop are probably the best place to make cues in the world . You can cut wood most of the year with the windows open and A/C off.
Not so in Las Vegas or Texas or Florida.
I'd let Dennis or Barry, that's about it though as far as high end cues
Pete T. as well.... Dennis would agree....

Jim Buss and Josh Treadway are more than qualified to work on that SW.
Just saying.
