Cutting Square Round Todds CNC

Hey Tom,

It is better to take a router table with 45 deg cutter and make the square an octogon first. Less stress on beaings that way.

Oh, no question you are 100% correct. My mission is not to be as gentle and find weak points in the system. If its Tom Proof it should last with correct ptocol a lifetime. I'll break it or wear something down, this you have my word on.

personnally, CNC just to turn square to round is a waste. A better test, IMO, would be to show cutting points into a forearm, or cutting shafts from start to finish. Those will show the abilities/repeatability of the CNC aspect of this lathe in a more usefull way.
Just a thought.

Dave,
I had already done a video on the cutting of a shaft and tapering of a butt. There were some questions on back lash.

I plan to do videos on full cues but most of my wood was square to start. I recently have gotten or am getting some aged wood that is round.

I would agree that it was a waste of time to do or see if it was a $17,500.00 monster heavy duty CNC like I owned 15 to 20 years ago but this is a very affordable Taig type CNC being brought to market by a fellow AZer. Durability is always an issue.

I gotta agree w Dave on this one- lets see it cutting a v bottom point groove! ;-)

I will get some cheap wood and a 90 degree cutter. I am not making cues with points in the future, only Merry Widows.

Score! I hope...

Well, I just bought this thing. I've been lusting for one of these for years. I hope it works.

i was watching it as well but shipping was too high. Looks like its missing a switch or possibly the drive motor looking at the extra wires coming from the side of it? Let us know how it works.

Not work?

I've looked at these things before. They look super tough. Simple, too. It doesn't look weathered or beat up, and at a glance seems complete. I've seen them for $2500 or so, occasionally less. But here it is, at a really cheap price. I'll bet I can get it up and running. If not, feel free to laugh.:)

Edit: What makes the deal for me is that the machine is in my regular territory and I can pick it up myself....no shipping charge is good!

Yea, the cutting part is worth that, you can always add motors and rewire it.

The monster

Ah yes, well...once it's in my truck I think I'll be OK. My portable engine hoist is rated for 1200 with the boom that far out, so I should be OK. I still need to feed a 5HP 220 3 phase motor. Oh well, one solution at a time.
