Cyclop balls Not good for TV!!!

Yeah I've never heard the color-blind angle either. I've always heard the TV colors were created because of the improved contrast with blue tournament cloth for TV's.

Remember that analog TV back then was standard definition at much lower resolution than we're used to today. Not only was the resolution lower, but CRTs were incapable of the sharpness of modern LCDs and were subject to color convergence problems which resulted in ghosted edges and washed out, distorted colors. So tweaking the colors for TV made sense back then. With today's technology, I'd agree that there's much less need for special TV colored balls.

Many teams in our league have purchased Cyclop sets to use during matches. We swap out the older, worn-out balls on the bar table. The only reason we chose Cyclop is that they are used at the BCAPL Nationals. The cost was $20 per person (from two teams) and it was worth it to have like-new, quality balls for match play.

I'm color blind bigtime and Cyclop balls worse for me. I've only played with Cyclop balls once for a few hour and had no skids using a red dot CB. Why change the colors if you aren't improving them? Johnnyt

It's just an effort to have good balls for TV, most likely, starting out in the era previous to HD. It takes time for the commentators and players to adjust, just like the Aramith TV balls. When they first came out everyone was like: what's with the pink and brown!! We playin' snooker!?
