Effective May of next year, all Bars and Pool halls will become non-smoking.
I know there has been a bunch of threads about this subject, but this was voted on yesterday and the people that think they are suppose to save everyone voted YES. Me being a non-smoker, I don't really care either way.

Heard the story yesterday but didn't hear the result. I'm not surprised. I play in Hurst & I've heard they could follow the same path early in the New Year. As a smoker I won't be too thrilled but what can you do?

Oregon is following suit January 1st and I am thrilled. I have always said that having a smoking section in a restaurant was like having a peeing section in a swimming pool. ;) :p

Iowa has been smoke-free in public places since July 1 of this year. What's kind of funny is the only places that are exempt are the casinos, where whenever I visit I see at least one person with an oxygen tank following behind them.

The bar business is tough as it is, and this hasn't helped them any. Some of the bars are adding covered patios. One of them had a patio, covered it with a tin roof, put up walls, added heaters and that's where you go to smoke. I don't know how long they're going to get away with it, because it's basically another room. :)

Since I don't smoke, I love the idea, but unfortunately a lot of clients smoke at all the rooms I visit. I'm sure this will be a hit for businesses. Of course if the room is great, people will keep coming back since it applies to all the rooms and they have to go somewhere! :p

I think it will hurt the pool rooms in dallas. It will hurt me . I sell oxygen. People guit smoking I will not have any cash to play with. It is not easy being easy.

Actually it is EXACTLY like that. Second hand smoke is no different than drinking watered down pee.

I don't think it will hurt the pool halls at all. Pool players aren't going to stop playing pool, just like the poker players didn't stop playing poker when so many of the poker rooms went non-smoking a few years ago.

Smoking

I'm an ex Smoker. I like the idea of no smoking indoors.

Smoking should be banned Statewide though. Not only in cities. Smokers WILL migrate to the suburbs. Banning by a city is ridiculous. IMO

I'm wondering how long before NC follows suit. I'm going to guess that NC and SC will be the very last to do this considering that it's tobacco central. As much as I don't like government telling businesses what they can do I also don't like reeking of smoke. The hall I go to doesn't use exhaust fans which makes it all the worse when it's busy.

We went non-smoking in the entire state of Arizona a few years back. Many room owners saw a decrease in customers, but I think it was more of the impact of the economy.

Personally, I loved it. I've never smoked and hated playing in halls where I had to carry eye drops to make it through long sets. I'd find myself adding a few blinks to my shot routine and it screwed me up. Since the ban I've increased my game atleast 2 balls. Of course that means I practiced more too. I could sneak away at lunch and play some racks or after the wife and kids were in bed, cause I wouldn't come home smelling like a cigarette butt.

Can they ban Skoal? I feel outta place if I don't have a pinch when I'm shooting. Its 30 below here now so only the hardcore smokers bother to go outside.

I've been to some bars that have banned snuff. It didn't make a difference to me since I dipped there anyhow and they didn't mind so long as I got rid of my spit cup which I always make sure to do.

I love the idea - my wife is pregnant and wants to see me play in the local bar tournaments but cannot go b/c of the smoke. She hasn't seen me play in the last 8 months (weird thing is I have been playing better the last 8 months that I have my entire life). Scratch that bring back the smoke! I like playing this well.

I just wish Austin is like that. It's killing me, but I am too hooked on this game. Hell, I am moving to Dallas.

Austin did ban smoking!! LOL

They just have secret codes for when the cops are coming!! Like...We're running a special on Crown & 7's!! ( which means put out your stogies and whatever you do.......don't smell like smoke!!)

LMAO!

There is a smokeless cigarette available for all you smokers. I can get you info if you want it.(trying to be helpfull to everyone)
I have never been a smoker and am glad to see everybody going nonsmoking. When I lived in Cali. most of the smokers were happy to go outside, they said they liked not smelling like smoke-go figure, even smokers don't like smelling like smoke.

I'm a smoker & for me it will suck, but i'll still go to clicks & just go outside to smoke.

(looks like it's time to quit)

You say that like it's it a bad thing! :D Gotta heat the pool somehow.

And Ray, the answer is yes. Farting is gonna be out. Give it 10 years that'll probably be a felony. Depending on what the offender has eaten of course!
