Damnit to hell ! ! !

the tourney blue cloth conflicts with the aqua and the green on the walls. geez, don't you guys have any design sense?

maybe I will go with tourney blue, after all, despite my comment above. I do like playing on it.

Fashion definitely matters. I'm not a Blue fan but I think it would look good with the Aqua.

You got a hunchback for your house player?
...better keep an eye on him...ya give him enough rope....
...he might start ringing bells

Hunchback?????....I'll have you know my divorce lawyer REMOVED that lump on my back a long time ago:grin:

Brian, ther are companies that have blowers and de humidifyers. I would highly recommend this as the rathers, and wood, and the ceiling tiles as well as any carpet may hold some moisture. Someone else mentioned the cues and I would get them out by all means. We had a flods at our home, fortunately no where near the pool table, but Ihave a limestone floor and we had to get the mositure out of that. The equipment was gong for 3-4 days. Better safe than sorry.

BTW, I vote to leave the cloth brown, simply to throw off any real competition! They will be distracted and annoyed :))

RKC has been here a couple of days now.

Some changes are being made.

Hint: What does my setup and Notre Dame now have in common?

Hint 2: Think originality. ;)

More to come soon.

Best,

Waiting for new pictures, KC...and the surprise.
I hope you aren't changing your seating to pews....
..I like the theater seats, reminds me of the Detroit Rack where millions
exchanged hands.

What I am amazed at is your collection of cue cases. If I were you I would build a "Home" cue case, with outter walls of glass designed to protect and showcase your many cues.

Hopefully insurance will take care of your water problems. I know that doesn't stop the pain of your "baby" being mistreated.

Best regards,
JoeyA

I'm guessing the reason for all the cases is that it's league night and his table is a host location so it's all the cues for all the players on league night. Right? It has to be. :)

Kevin

I will have you fixed up real shortly.

And, Mr. Cobra, while it may be true that you got the best of me, please know that it may have something to do with the fact that I can now see (details to come). This is an adjustment. ;)

Stay tuned just a little bit longer.

best,
brian kc

I know what you mean chicken, last time when we played...you wouldn't hold the flashlight still while I was shooting...but this time, "God said...LET THERE BE LIGHT"...and there was LIGHT...so you stood NO chance from that point on:thumbup:

Just one of the things that has always confused me....

..how come 'light' shades are heavy?

Okay, here we go.

As RKC can attest, yesterday I wrota an approx 12 long paragraph post that froze and couldn't be retrieved with just a few lines left to go. So, hopefully, today's version will do better.

First and foremost, thank you Glen for coming to the rescue of a brother in need and leaving me in even better shape than the last time you were here. You are a real friend and that goes well beyond pool tables.

Glenn arrived Tuesday afternoon with his lady, Jackie, and his new road cat, "Baby". this is a pretty new cat, just a few weeks old and what a fun distraction she is.

RKC got down to biz on Wednesday, disassembled the top end of the table, remediated what needed to be from the water damage, then since I was changing from the tan cloth to tourney blue, I knew the aqua skirts were out so we sat there looking at the table trying to decide what other color might go well. I really wanted to stick with an original GC1 color but aqua and tangerine weren't gonna work and white was too, well, white. Jackie was looking at the trim on an old starburst clock in the room and she said, "how about gold?" I said yeah, I think gold would look great and Glen chimed in that he's pretty sure gold was the 4th original GC1 color (thanks again, Jackie!). He made a call to confirm it and sure enough it was so we were off to Home Depot for the paint. As Glen recalls, the original gold was similar to Notre Dame's football helmets (not the replacement front tooth on their hunchback, pt).

Glen doesn't like the fact that he sees some swirl marks in the aqua on the wood skirts so, naturally, he's gonna remove every bit of the aqua. So yes, he proceeds to sand all skirts down to the bare wood. I would have 'kilz' primed them and painted the gold. He is an animal!

Time now to recloth the table and we're again sitting by the table chatting and I asked Glen if he thought that at some point I should consider getting a Diamond light. I have an antique slag glass pool light with stamped brass that looks gorgeous but only lights the table so-so. Glen says not only would that be the perfect upgrade but that he actually has a new one on the truck that he's grown weary of working around because the box is so damned big. And, that this particular light just so happens to be Diamond's version of rosewood which is the best match for my rails. He thinks Diamond would give me a smoking deal on it if I want and so, you see where this is heading - yep, back in the car to Home Depot, this time for light hanging parts and bulbs.

This was not, I repeat, this was not just a couple of s-hooks and a chain to hang it though I suppose you could do that. This was an RKC install complete with threaded rods through added lumber up into the rafters so I could have the light perfectly flush up to the ceiling, neat, safe, perfect. And to say it is a night and day difference is not much of an exxageration. Holy illumination, Batman! My nice slag glass light will now become my card table light.

Besides painting the cue rack, scrubbing the fiberglass lower skirts, and shuttling some parts, I didn't have to do much at all. Just keep em well fed and with Dr. Peppers and RKC has everything else covered.

There is one other big piece of news.

Since I had been on the fence about 8 months ago over getting rid of the lally columns in this room, and now that the room has suffered some damage and needs to be put back together anyway, I figured what the heck, might as well, so the main carrying beam is getting changed starting tomorrow. This operation will feature jackhammers, temporary support walls, and five 2 x 12 by 21 feet lvl lam beams that will be sandwiched by 2 5/8" thick steel finch plates. Many people will not understand the lengths I'm going to lose the colums but I know you all will.

So, without further ado, here's some pics. To be honest, I'll miss the aqua but it really is nice to shoot on the blue and I think the gold sets it off nicely.

Thanks again to all for all of the comments, the funny, witty, helpful, supportive and even the critical.

best,
brian kc
p.s. Glen; have your old McDermott handy when you come back for your trailer. I'm getting the hang of shooting balls I can now actually see. :p

That's what you like when you spend some money for a repair, taking it to better than it was. Nothing frosts my ass like shelling out bucks to just get to where I was before the event. That is so superior I can't stand it. That's a great space for playing pool and a great great great table to play on, and it sounds like the space is even going to get better.

Thanks for sharing

and wow, the work RKC does is second to none

Kevin

Wow. Really nice work and I think the new color combo is even nicer than the previous.

Hopefully all your work is done by mid july. I am dying to play on that thing.

Enjoy.

First, let me start be saying that you have an awesome rec room and table. 2nd, I will say you are not alone.

I have redone my basement pool room 3 times now.

1st, my kitchen waste pipe rotted and was dumping god knows what behind the wall, under the floor, etc. The smell was lovely, the water damage, stunning.

2nd the drain from the street where my sump pump drains clogged up during a huge rainstorm. More hazmat!

3rd, brand new central air system drain was leaking!

If I didn't love the sport so much, my table and entire contents of my pool room would be on the curb. If my wife didn't love me so much, so would I!
