Dan Dishaw Custom Cue

FS is a 6 point (3 hi & 3 low) Dishaw Custom cue with the forearm pattern repeated in the butt sleeve. The points are not ivory, but are an ivory substitute material used by Dan Dishaw. The points are set in ebony and have turquoise diamond shaped inlays.
The cue has turquoise and ebony trim rings at a, b, c, d, & e.
The forearm and the butt sleeve are highly figured birdseye maple.
The wrap is smooth black leather and the cue comes with 2 shafts (one played and the other un-played) which are 12.9mm (4 ozs.) and 13mm (3.8 ozs.).
The butt of the cue weighs 15.4 ozs. The butt and the shafts roll straight and the finish is free of nicks or dings.
The joint is a flat faced uni-lock radial pin joint. The cue comes with a set of J/P's.

The Dishaw Cue has been SOLD, thanks to everyone........

are those recut points or just stacked veneers?
I'm not sure. This cue belonged to a friend and I don't have a lot of information on it. The points are not ivory and I do know that.

I wish Dan would stop using the ivory sub. He makes a great playing cue but with the faux ivory his cues have no value.

I have noticed that he does use it a lot. On the inside pool interview, he said he makes gallery cues. I think the reason why he uses faux ivory is because real ivory is too expensive or hard to find. If its mishandled during machining, then there goes a waste of a big piece of real ivory, while if he had ivory substitute, it wouldnt be so hard to replace. I think he'd build a cue with ivory if it was a custom order with a deposit to pay for real ivory, otherwise it has too much initial cost.

Another reason is that he sells quite a few cues overseas. The customs folks would have a field day with an ivory cue like this.

I had this cue or one exactly like it. Got it back in 1998/1999 while at a tournament in Texas. The billiards business representative I got it from sold it as having ivory inlays. I was somewhat new to custom cues back then and took him for his word. A short time later when trying to trade it to Joe Salazar I learned the truth.

This design is nice and from my experience Dishaw cues play pretty well. And I have to say that the cue is a great deal for the price.

I don't know why you would post this in my thread. You don't know this, but a friend of mine passed away 9/30/08 and this was one of his cue and i'm just trying to help his widow sell some of his cues. Real ivory or faux ivory won't change how this cue plays and if the look of this cue appeals to you then the price is pretty good for a cue with this much work, even if it's not real ivory.

Thank you for your honest and kind words and I think the cue is a steal for this price. A cue doesn't have to have real ivory to be a great cue and the value of this much ivory would price this cue too high to sell.

I had a Dishaw with 4 shafts of different weights I got from a 3 time Texas Express 9 Ball Champion. It had Alternative Ivory in the joint and inlays. One night, I put it out with 3 other custom made cues for a group of respectable players to test hit balls with two of which owned SWs. 3 picked the Dishaw over my Mottey, Omen, and and Cog. One picked the Cog. 2 Offered to buy it on the spot for a small profit to me.

I sold the cue later on eBay for $1575.

Enough said. You are offering a very good deal.

I spent a great deal of time talking with Dan down at the SBE this year. Super nice guy and his cues are gorgeous. I was going to buy a certain cue but by the time I got back to it he had sold it already. The cue had different woods, less ivory(or whatever) and only slightly more work to is and he was asking $2300. I wish I had a $1000....honestly cannot believe someone hasn't taken this already. This has to be the best deal on here period.

I believe this cue is the 'Hopkins' Model Cue with Ivory Alternative into BEM with Turquoise inlays.
