Danny D in Chicago

I didn't recognize you there. Oh well. I lost to Rob 3-1 after he played Freddy.

Chris beat Paul with some really nice stuff.

That's all I got. First real one pocket tourney. I was there for 6 hours, spent $50.

OK, I saw you over there playing Rob.
You looked like a cubs fan. (It's starting to get a little crowded in first place up north.;) )

What did one pocket ghost look like? Or who did he beat, Maybe I can remember who he was.

Lol, yeah I've got all my teeth. :D

I don't know who 1 Pocket Ghost is either. Maybe next time.

(Can't believe we're losing to Florida at home!)

I was going to mention something about you being clean cut, and having teeth and all, but thought it might be a little insensitive towards some of the other patrons yesterday.

You guys haven't been able to give Harden enough support or relief either. 4 good outings and no wins for him, while CC is tearing it up in Milwaukee. The Sox got lucky the last 3 games. Smoke and mirrors for now.

I had a guy at the poolroom the other night say that Danny D. game was head and shoulders above Earl Stricklands....I was wondering what everyone here thought....

Tiger,
Different era's, different styles. Danny's accomplishments (equivalent of world titles in straight pool, 9-ball, 8-ball, and onepocket) make him definitely the better all-around player (though both are definitely Hall of Fame material). Earl would be considered the better 9-ball player; but Danny was one of the best straight pool and one-pocket players ever (not to say Earl couldn't have played those games if he wanted to....ball pocketing counts for a lot in all games).

In the gambling arena, Danny had few peers. At age 70 or so, Danny's best playing days are definitely behind him; but his mind is razor sharp, and he has studied the game for a lifetime - still has that love of the game that he communicates to the student.

Williebetmore,

Very well stated, and I agree 100% (not that it matters that I agree:p ). Earl was and still is one of the best 9 ballers, but Danny is one of the all time greats. His knowledge and willingness to share is a great gift. So once again, I agree with Mr. Williebetmore...

Danny is not 70, he is 72 and can still shoot the lights out of many of us.

Best Regards,
Hal

Yesterday, Susie (one pocket tournament organizer at Chris's) said that Danny told her he is 73.

Smoke and mirrors my ass! They're still the favorite to win the AL Central, ask any sports reporter.

From your lips to God's ear.

Relief a little shaky. Konerko needs to get on track. Quentin and Ramirez were wonderful surprises not to mention Danks and Floyd for the first half. Don't know what's happened with Logan, but hopefully it turns around a little.

Don...In case you forgot, Earl WON a big 1-pocket tournament, less than a year ago, that had all the top players competing. IIRC, it was the Carolina Open. I think that qualifies him as a top 1-pocket player, even if he plays better 9ball.:D

Scott,
No question that Earl can play any game. His accomplishments in one-pocket, banks, and straight pool are fairly insignificant in comparison to Danny's (of course, he hasn't had as much time as Danny to do it yet).

If they had a peapool tournament on bumperpool tables Earl would still be one of the favorites. If the game is played with balls and a cue-stick; who really likes his chances matching up with Earl???
