Danny DilLiberto

While there are several 70-something BCA Hall of Famers still around from the straight pool era (Varner, Hopkins, Rempe, Fleming, Sigel), I know of just three 80-something BCA Hall of Famers still with us from that era (Dan DiLiberto, Ray Martin, and Dallas West). We should delight in the continuing presence of these eight legends.

The only mistakes I ever saw Danny make were when he hit the cue ball too high, and the object ball skidded. Other than that, he was a magnificent straight pool player.

Did Buddy Hall pass without my knowing it? Or by "still around", do you mean still active in pool, one way or another?

No, he didn't. The subject of my post, however, was the straight pool legends in the BCA hall of fame that are still alive. Posters on this forum so often lament that most of the legends of straight pool are no longer among us but some of them are, as noted, still with us. A couple of legends are omitted because they are under 70, such as Mike Zuglan, not a hall of famer but whose played straight pool at what one might call "hall of fame" level.

... and, of course, we lost another "hall of fame" level straight pooler yesterday in Pete Margo.

Done…I can’t believe I misspelt his name…I’ve only known him for a zillion years….Toronto and Buffalo are only about 40 miles apart….right across the lake.

I've been watching some Derby City matches on Billiard Channel lately and he's a commentator on many of them. Also, I think I see you in the front row on many of them. Am I right?

Yes. Most years, I sit behind the breaker in the first row.
 
I think my dad traded him a 1980s dodge charger for lessons in Phoenix AZ in something like 1986-1987. Looked something like this. They ran around together and spent a bunch of time at the golden 8 ball. Wonder if he remembers? My dad's name was Francis - he may or may not have been known as Barney around that time...
