i got a call from mark Hadadd last night to inform me that Danny is in the hospital again. At this point, any news on him is concerning.
He did get to spend Christmas with his Brother, Sister and kids and for that I am truely grateful.
Danny has been a warrior all his life and doesn't even understand the words, "Give up"! He will fight, scratch and crawl for every breath this life has to offer.
His attitude is still very strong and one that many of us could really learn a lot from. His days are numbered and he still only asks for prayers. When we talk which is often, it is my voice that gets weak and for that I feel very ashamed.
years and years ago, back when Danny was in his hayday, we were headed to Vegas for some event.
I was driving around 3 A through Utah when he woke up and climbed up front to the passenger seat.
he was ranked in the top 5 players in the world at that time and as excited as any Kid could be.
He sat there in silence for a minute and then said, "Bud, I have been thinking, and I think I am the best shot maker in the world"!
I said nothing and just kept driving when he asked,"What do you think"!
"Actually, I was thinking it was me who is the best shotmaker in the world"I replied.
We drove along in silence for a few miles when he said," You know Bud, you might be right"!
having forgotten what we were even talking about, I said,"Right about what"?
"You might be the best shotmaker in the world" He said.
"now why would you suddenly agree with that" I asked?
"Because you are never in line and can never get out of rack without banking at least one ball" he said.
That's just part of my stall" I said.
He laughed and we got into Vegas and a few days early and tried to find some action when we ended in some bar and entered this doubles 9 ball tournament. It was worth about $50 to us and we were not taking it very serious.
The finals was a hill-hill match. he made the 7 and left me perfectly on the 8 just below the side when All I had to do was make the ball and get the cue ball about 12 inches past the side pocket.
Remembering our conversation I fired the 8 in and stopped the cue ball where it was. he glared and looked at me as if I had fallen from a Turnip truck and said,"Bud, what were you thinking"?
I said,"What, i made the ball"!
"now we have to make the 9 ball, this aint 8 ball and you left nothing"!
"Well, I was gettin nervous and you said you are the best shotmaker in the world, so i just cinched it" I said.
"oh, okay Bud" he said, rolling his eyes.
he got up and hit that ball so paper thin and sliced it in, turned and said,"Any questions"?
"You must have miscued" i said.
"Don't tell anybody, Bud" he said.
Though we had over $9000 cash with us, he wanted that $50.00. it was just the way his pride worked. I was eventually forgiven and for a lot of other things over the years.
I love my friend and my prayers are continuous and I ask that you do the same, PLEASE??
