I was having a discussion with a friend of mine...He says that Darren played a lot better before he was married. I disagreed with him at the time but now I'm starting to believe it..
Do you guys think his drop in performance is because of he's married, or other reasons?

This past year, Darren has been dealing with neck pain that has affected his caliber of play.

Caus/ effect logic error.

Weather around here is getting cold and trump is the king-elect. Weather change is not a result of the election.

As I recall, Diaz has had some recent neck issues. That can really hamper a mans pool game.

I also imagine that a player at his point in the pool life cycle has to spend a lot of time with marketing, as opposed to solely focusing on pool.

Well, that could be a blessing in disguise.
If he plays less, he could concentrate on getting his tour up and running.
I think DAZ has some great ideas that will help pool expand.

I hate to see any person go through any type of physical pain, but perhaps this is his cue
to make a shift within the industry.
It will only help us all.

go DAZ!

I can believe it about the neck issues. I've dealt with tendinitis issues in my shoulder for well over 3 years now. Whenever it acts up, the performance goes down. You see it a lot in other sports, All an ace pitcher needs is a little tendinitis in his elbow to just completely balloon up their ERA. Stuff like that just has a way of killing the overall mechanics.

Neck is the absolute(vodka) worst for a pool player. Get well Daz
Jason

Sorry, been drinking

Neck pain sucks, I know. It won't let you get you head in the same position all the time. Which definetly affects your consistency.

I just don't buy all these excuses. I just think that his game hasn't improved as much as other players and therefor he's been left behind. It has happened to other great players of the past and will happen again in the feature. Tasting defeat more often than he used to also damages his confidence too when it comes to hard matchplay pool because that intimidating aura he once possessed in his heyday is not there anymore to win him most of the scrappy matches he's involved. He's still playing good and if the wind is right he can still beat the elite players in a single match but winning tournaments demands a whole different kind of consistency than Appleton's. It's almost 3 years now that he's dead money in tournaments. Only the Mosconi Cup is keeping him in the spotlight.

He just won the Chinese 8 ball tournament in 2015 beating Mark Selby in the finals. 2016 is the only year he has not won one of the majors.

From my understanding, his wife Angie is actually very supportive of Daz and his playing career, so I doubt his play might be declining because of getting married.

It does sound like a lot is going on in his life right now between trying to start up a tour, possible neck pain, and there are some added responsibilities or things to address when married vs. dating or single. The more life hands a pool player to deal with, the more difficult it can become to eat, sleep, and live life between the rails. But if any of us think his play is slacking, I'd say lets put up our money and find out just how "off" Daz really is lol

So now Chinese 8 ball and -I presume- American and World 14.1 Championships are considered to be majors? LOL

Oh, I agree with you. He's got to be playing better now that he's married.
Everyone knows that marriage brings out the best in a man, right?
I mean look at all your friends who are married. They're all docile, peace loving guys, who wouldn't say shit if they had a mouthful. And, why should they. They have somebody saying it for them.
Hell, I liked it so much I did it three times. I'd do it four times if I could get a date.
Yes Sir. Tell your buddy he's as full of crap as a Christmas goose. Marriage is the best thing that's come along since sliced bread. :thumbup2:

On facebook said he was sharked in his match against SVB. Didn't say by who. Also was rear ended on his way to the hotel. Hope he feels ok today.

Considering the Chinese 8 ball tournament paid $98k for 1st...

Good prize money doesn't necessarily qualifies the event as a major. This is a tournament that doesn't carry enough history or a proper world-wide field to be considered as a major. And I know per fact that most of the snooker players entering the event are doing it due to sponsoring reasons with Chinese companies mainly and not for the prize money.

Maybe....

I don't know what if any thing could be slowing him down. By his own admission, which I admire him for, he has struggled in the past with personal issues that effected his game. At least he is man enough to admit it.

I bet if he was practicing 8 hours a day for 5 days a week he would be as good as any one. Pro pool playing is a job, every job requires your time if you want to be in top form.

I don't envy any pro pool players, as it appears to be a very hard way to make a living. Try raising a family, buying and supporting a home, buying health insurance, vehicles and saving for retirement on a pro pool players income.

They have no guarantees of income and the competition is tough! If your prone to being on the emotional side imagine the stress. Crap, I would hate it.

If he can find another way to make more money I say do it. He is a great player and I really like watching him play. I am sure he will be in the winners circle again.

As far as marriage goes. I wish him and his wife the best. When you get it right it is great and it darn sure beats growing old alone surrounded by a bunch of personal belongings some one will sell when your gone. I have been married 43 years and life is very good!
