Darren Appleton performance

On facebook said he was sharked in his match against SVB. Didn't say by who. Also was rear ended on his way to the hotel. Hope he feels ok today.

Did anybody see what he was talking about on the stream?

Good prize money doesn't necessarily qualifies the event as a major. This is a tournament that doesn't carry enough history or a proper world-wide field to be considered as a major. And I know per fact that most of the snooker players entering the event are doing it due to sponsoring reasons with Chinese companies mainly and not for the prize money.

He's won just about everything there is to win. How much more improving does he need to do in your eyes? lol

You should play less pool and try to improve your reading comprehension skills instead. I never doubted the man's achievements through the years. We're discussing Darren's current state of form which is far from brilliant. If you think that there's no space for improvement even for these top players then you clearly don't understand what gave them the "monster" status.

From my understanding, his wife Angie is actually very supportive of Daz and his playing career, so I doubt his play might be declining because of getting married.

It does sound like a lot is going on in his life right now between trying to start up a tour, possible neck pain, and there are some added responsibilities or things to address when married vs. dating or single. The more life hands a pool player to deal with, the more difficult it can become to eat, sleep, and live life between the rails. But if any of us think his play is slacking, I'd say lets put up our money and find out just how "off" Daz really is lol

What business do 'us' have playing him? About as much as a 'smart' dog has doing a crossword.

The daz of years past played better that the current one.

I hope he gets back up to the top. He had an impressive string of stepping up to claim the big prize. The more up there, the merrier.

I was there in person saw the whole thing. Jayson was in the booth as a guest commentator. Jayson & Billy were talking about the table layout & it was being followed by the players just as Jayson was describing. So Jayson says "looks like I've played this game a bit" mind you the crowd can't here the commentators unless you had a headset. So when Jayson said that most of the crowd with the headset laughed but one lady did it a bit louder and it sorta screeched. That hit Darren, she was directly behind him and he stood up all upset & missed the shot after he reset himself. He was pissed the remainder of match.

This is just an assumption of course...an observation if you will....

Is Darren using the Revo shaft full time yet? Was he using his 314 at MIH this week?
How many man hours has he used trying to get used to the multiple weight/diameter versions predator made for him over the last year?

I noticed a bit of a hiccup in Jasmine's game with the shift to Revo. Last I saw she went back to the vantage.

I don't know how much it's promoted but Darren plays a ton of one pocket when he's in us playing fusco. I'm 100% sure his 1 pocket has improved drastically but when u go from rotation all day every day to one pocket things change n trying to play rotation or even 8 ball can be extremely challenging when ur only playing one pocket. I'm not positive this is way Darren's slumping or how much rotation he practices anymore but I know the amount of one pocket he plays now versus 5 years ago is like 20 times more so I'd bet that has at least something to do with it. You know what they say one pocket teAches u how to miss. Also idk I'm sure Chinese 8 ball has a small piece of his pool playing pie chart n while it's great to play all games to become a more well rounded player at the top level if ur trying to win 9-10 ball major tournaments u need to be 100% focused on that game considering the quality of competition n opponents.

Just throwing that out there and even I don't think it's the main cause for his "slump".

I was having a discussion with a friend of mine...He says that Darren played a lot better before he was married. I disagreed with him at the time but now I'm starting to believe it..
Do you guys think his drop in performance is because of he's married, or other reasons?

It could be. However, Jayson Shaw got married and had a baby. Seems very happy, and you would have to be crazy if you think his performance since then is anything but stellar.

You should write less like a robot and play pool more. Maybe then you'd realize that Appleton is still a monster and one of the few living in the US who make a good living playing pool.

Lately he's started a few businesses and working on a major 8ball series. So maybe he hasn't been as invested in playing as you'd like him to be and I'm sure he would apologize and beg for your forgiveness.

We should be a little circumspect about the premise here. Darren actually performed at MIH at a very high level.

Goes to show you the level of US pool players these days. It's like stealing a church.

Thanks for confirming my concept. Darren not up there with the best at the moment.

Hardly a proper tournament though.

Haters gonna hate.

Daz used to be m favorite player and person i modelled my game after. He has won everything and if retired tomorrow will be in hall of fame. it is a testament to his high standards that he is getting rinsed for under preforming right now

that being said he is not playing well at least to his and others standards. with this came his constant moaning about being sharked, the break rules, magic rack, size of table need for refs etc whenver he loses he has an excuse, it turned me off him bad.

especially when he played in the one pocket fight night couple years ago and got cained then said he hadnt played one pocket for 6 months and wasnt prepared??thanks douche as i bet on you. again tho he has excuses.

Hmmm.. Is this really what we mean by "excuse"?

I take his statement to mean .... I take personal responsibility; I hadn't prepared properly

Many US people say that Bergman has the best cue ball control possibly in the world but to me it is Appleton. Without question. I've watched him play under pressure many times along with some of those drills he has posted on Facebook are simply super human.

That being said, Appleton definitely had a down year. Whether it was distractions or simply a decline in his game, only he honestly knows the answer. If his 8 ball series 'makes it', then if he still wants to be a top player he will have to come up with his own way to deal with the distractions and time restraints he will have.

The recent MIH, Appleton played decent but 8 ball is an equalizing game among players. Much easier than say 10 ball. And a round robin is less pressure than a single/double elimination tournament. Not saying Darren can't handle pressure cause he has obviously won some of the biggest tournaments in the world but if you aren't playing at the top of your game, less pressure is a good thing for some.

Interesting to see how he does in the upcoming MC. To me, he played the weakest of the Europeans during last year's MC. Doesn't mean he played terrible but if I was to rank the team's play 1 through 5, he would have been 5th. This year, to me, he didn't deserve to be on the team as Mika and definitely Alcaide had far superior years but that is why there are captain picks. The captain must have felt his experience and playing as a team member out weighed some others current level of play. And Appleton always handles himself as a professional which gives him a lot of points right there.
