So, has anyone else seen the shaft Darren was using for his game against Orcollo? Never seen anything like it.

Any ideas as to what it might be?

I was wondering the same thing. Be interesting to find out. btw dennis played outstanding in the match against darren

In the chat there were people saying it was a new prototype from Predator that he had recently discussed in an interview. I have no idea, but that was being said.

worse i've seen dazz play in a long time. he'l probably threw it off the plane.

Probably a shaft wrapped in carbon fiber to stiffen the hit.

What it is is , proof that even great players get caught up thinking their cue is bad , maybe he needs a swing coach ?,or a sponsor looking to market something else that doesn't work . Maybe a black ferrule would help .

It's might be a Predator proto hybrid shaft designed by Mike Dechaine 2-3y ago. The shaft is indeed wrapped in a black durable coat...not sure the material used tho. It actually plays pretty stiff and has a great feel to it.
Hope that helped.

Chris, why do you keep saying that Mike Dechaine designed anything? I told you months ago when I had the shaft that Mike didn't design anything when it come to the new shaft coming out. I thought that would clear up any confusion you had. All Mike did was test out the shaft and give his opinion. If you think he designed the shaft wouldnt his new sponser OB be coming out with the new shaft then? The true innovator of the new shaft coming out is none other than Paul Costain from predator cues. He designed pretty much everything Predator has come out with for a whilee now.

obviously it doesn't work, since Mike Dechaine stopped using them, and you saw Daz playing not so good in his 2015 9ball championships, maybe it just isn't that good to play with :D

100% factual comment.

These "prototypes" are 100% carbon fiber. They can be made in any EXACT diameter, taper or balance point. They can be made with very high or low deflection. They will NEVER warp or degrade. Buy one, ONCE!

I had the pleasure of playing with one over the course of a few days last month. Simply excellent. Predator is on version 6 or 7 in their prototype series. There are 3 or 4 players in New York that have them too. Everyone seems to really like them. I know a very famous cue maker had the opportunity to examin and play with the one I used and was very impressed.

Cost will be a downside for many. How much do you charge for an item you only need to buy once? I would expect these shafts, when they finally come to market to be in the $6-800 range.

Interesting. I've been wondering when carbon would makes its way into a shaft to this level, was curious how it would play. I work in the cycling industry which was transformed by carbon fiber years ago. Not sure I beleive they can sell $600-800 shafts, nor would that price be warranted as carbon is pretty affordable these days, but I could see $400-500 for a carbon shaft maybe. I would love to give one a try sometime, I'm surrounded by carbon fiber engineers, manufacturing, and testing every day so I know how impressive the things you can do with it are. Glad to hear Predator is starting to work with it.
