"Dart" Jump Cues?

Joe Salazar-The Conoissouer of Custom Cues, had some like you described at the TX Open this year, but, I can't remember the brand name or manufactuer. They were black, pencil thick looked like graphite or fiberglass. I can't find Joe's number right now, if I do I'll pm you. I've owned several makes, Frog, Tadpole, Gilbert, Cuetec(gasp), Alton, a Lomax is tough to beat, I haven't tried a Henshew they are said to be pretty sporty.

Certainly can't go wrong with a Chilton Flying Eagle. Although I'll usually use my X-breaker for most game situations, the Chilton resides in my case for any tight jams that may arise. The Dr. Popper is also great for close jumps and gets the cue ball up and down quickly.

But as people have mentioned previously, the dart technique can be used with any jump cue. And if I have to jump over a couple diamond distances, I would use my jump/break, just for the weight, dart or pendulum stroke.

Jacoby Jumper

Anyone have any other recommendations. Im buying something here soon, so far it looks like the Chilton jumper is going to be my choice.

I have never tried a Chilton, but I love my Jacoby jumper. It has a finger grip notch near the joint for dart jumps. I can consistently dart jump as close as 1 ball (just under 3/4 ball is my personal best, but I have heard of others doing better). I can also easily jump over a half table distance using the pendulum stroke. I can apply top, bottom, and side english on any jump shot, and the cue makes it very easy to jump. When I say easy, I have let people who have never jumped before use it and they can jump in the first attempt. Not everyone of course, but the ones who listen have! KOINNKID (Troy) sells them on here.
Good luck with whatever you choose!

Chilton custom cues demo- Some people were interested in jump cue technique- here's dale just banging a few jumps. Billiards digest did a big article on jumping as well-last month or the month before! mark

I filmed my new movie with Venom about 5-6 weeks ago now. He brought 9 cues with him, including a various number of jump cues. Some were for dart jumping. If any of you have seen this kid jump, you know how insane he is. He jumps full balls from less than a quarter inch away, and can jump a ball 3 feet high and still keep it on the table.

Anyway, half way through the 9 day video shoot, he tried my Mezz jump cue. He loved int and from then on he never used anything else. He was amazed and now plans on getting one.

Personally I dont know a thing about them (I rarely jump), but if Venom was that impressed by Mezz, perhaps it's worth looking in to for you guys.

(I have no ties to Mezz. Mika does, but I'm not Mika....obviously. lol)

Larry Nevel's 1mm jump using dart method

Folks:

There's mention of "capable of jumping a full ball from a quarter inch away," but methinks Larry Nevel's got the record. In this video, he uses the dart method to jump a full ball with the cue ball only 1mm (half the thickness of a credit card) away:

Insane! I'm not sure what jump cue he's using in the video, but perhaps it's just a shaft.

I like the Stealth Jump Cue, it is 3 parts, fully assembled it can be used with the pendlum jump stroke and with only the first 2 pieces it is an effective "dart stroke" jumper. It's also relatively cheap.

Venom has him beat. Heres a 1mm full ball jump...1 handed...with draw

Nathan:

This is nice! However, as executed in the video, Venom's very nearly hitting the bottom of the pocket with his cue. I'm sure that if he tried this with the object ball / cue ball grouping farther away from the pocket (i.e. not sitting at the lip of the pocket / precipice of the slate) that he'd need to use the standard dart method with both hands, and not letting the tip of the cue slam uncontrolled onto the bed of the table. AFAICT ("as far as I can tell"), Larry's shot would be a legal shot in any game that allows jumping of balls. But then again, we're talking trickshots here -- by definition, shot "legality" goes right out the window!

Very nice -- please relay my congratulations to Venom for this shot!

Sean,

The reason Venom did his over the pocket is because it spares his felt from getting destroyed. The cue can actually cut the cloth at such a steep angle, making for a very messy result after multiple attempts.

If you get a chance, go back to the youtube video and look at the video response link just underneath the video itself. Its another similar video made by another trickshot artist doing the same shot (one handed) further out in the slate. The draw on the shot isnt as pretty, but it shows that it can still be made further from the pocket. :)

PS. Don't get me wrong, Nevel's shot is insane. I just like these ones better because of the added draw....and the one hand factor.
