Too many rules spoils the game, not enhances it. 9-Ball still works because it's simple and easy to understand; make the nine you win the game, miss and it's the other guy's turn. Ten Ball came along because the skill level of the top players increased so much. IMO Ten Ball should be played with the same rules as 9-Ball.

We are in complete agreement on this....the call/option ten ball rules reminds me of why I
avoided playing eight ball in bars when I was active.

It's like a bunch of pool players created a think tank to discuss how they could make the
game more pedestrian....

You would be more familiar with this than I, but my recollection is that 10b with 9b rules (as you describe) is what is played in all the money games in the Philippines. Is that right?

Correct, and it was played that way in all the money games here for years (decades) as well.
