Time to put my American hat on. Go Gabe!

Alcano won 8-7! IPT just updated the score... too bad Adkins has to sit this one out..

Does that mean that EARL "the girl" is out? Hope not.....his antics are a hoot

Gli

Problem with this winning percentage is that somebody could have had easier games in first rounds and that would push his percentage up... Now I understand why GLI was better... :)

Ummm...

It would seem to me that if someone has had easier games in the first rounds, their GLI would be pushed down in the same way that their winning percentage would be pushed up.

Yeah, the winning % is fine, they are basically the same, but winning% is more positive and easier to understand for most people. Just wish it wasn't a carry over for each group, should be the winning% you had in THAT group, it those players your competing with.

BUT, and I do understand this, the carry over should give an advantage to the best players, and the IPT wants the best to be in the last rounds.

...This is why they should organize the rounds such that fellow countrymen face each other at the very beginning of each round, such that they don't have to face each other in the final matches of the round...
I just thought of something.

I think the IPT listened to what I said yesterday concerning the final matches between Filipinos Dennis and Alex, and Busta and Santos.

Didn't you notice that today, all the Filipino players faced each other right off the bat? If I can remember correctly, Efren played Luat, Manalo played Alex, and Orcullo played Alcano all in the first round today, then Busta played Orcullo in the second round, and finally Busta played Alcano in the third round. I don't think this was a coincidence at all.

I think this is the best way to do things...having fellow countrymen (or "buddies") face each other at the very beginning of each round (or at least the later rounds) to avoid any suspicions or accusations by the conclusion of the round. It shows the IPT adapts to constructive criticism, especially criticism that is correct. :)

Just for the record, I admit I didn't think of this idea on my own. I got this idea from Bob Jewett in this thread.

i think the best way to do it is totally through random selection because if they intentionally pitted the filipinos against one another then wouldn't that be like fixing the game to make sure that we don't see a repeat of last year's 1-2-3 finish by the filipinos (aside from sigel)? but that's just my admittedly uninformed opinion. it just kinda sucks that we almost never get to see a reyes-bustamante final because they often face each other in the earlier rounds and knock each other out.

Oops, sorry for the confusion. I meant countrymen should play each other at the beginning matches of a given round (or given day), if they happen to fall in the same group.

The fact that many Filipinos happened to fall in the same group was mere coincidence and just how the tournament played out. Aside from the very first round, the IPT has a predetermined way to assmeble the players for each group.
