Uncle Waldo's has been sold to new owner's recently. Here is my experience. I don't know for sure if the guy at the counter is the owner but my guess is it was.
So I go in there 2 weeks ago to play in a Friday night tournament. I stand there waiting for him to get off the phone for a few minutes, he sees me but doesn't say anything or even acknowledge me with even a 'just a minute gesture'. After he is done with his call he is walking over to help me and this local butts in and says I'm not going to get warm sitting here can I get table 12? He gives this big momma to put it nicely - she is a beast and not in a nice way. They have 5 9 foot tables and 12 was the only empty one left.
Then the guy approached me in a way that I felt was rude. Maybe not by what he said but just his tone. So I paid the 10 for the tourny and then asked if I could practice. He said it's $3 to practice. ???? Really it was 7:41 and the tourny started at 8. The website says practice at 6:30, it doesn't say free practice but any pool hall I've ever been to has had free practice time.
The only people in the place were the 9 people for the tournament and not one person was playing on the 8 footers so it's not like I was costing them a table that could have been rented. So I am a little steamed not about the money but his attitude mainly. I say I am going to bad mouth his business and he gives me my money back and I say good and leave , maybe calling it a shithole as I leave.
This is not about the 3 bucks, I am far from cheap and I always buy food/drinks every time I go to a pool hall. So this guy just lost a customer who would have spent a few hundred in his pool hall this year.
Brown's Billiards was always nice but it's been years since I've been there.
