Here are the rules for 2009, slightly changed from 2008. There is no separate women's division this year and the finals matches will be to 100.

Straight Pool Challenge Rules
$10,000 added -- Finals are matches
100% of entries returned as prizes

Prelims in the Straight Pool area, January 25-28, Sunday thru Wednesday. Finals are Thursday and Friday, January 29-30, in the Straight Pool area and on the TV table.

The game is straight pool (14.1) shoot-out -- you against the table with no opponent. There will be four days of prelims. Each try begins with a 14-ball rack and the 15th ball and the cue ball in hand, but both the 15th ball and the cue ball must be at least one ball diameter from any other ball. Each try ends on a miss or foul. We are calling all fouls. WPA Rules and Regulations apply.

A $100 entry gets you a total of four tries on three different days. No player will get more than 12 tries in the prelims. You can do more than four tries on one day if necesary, but only the first four tries each day will count for the daily prize.

The eight players with the highest runs in the prelims will play in the finals. This year the finals will be played as a single-elimination tournament to 100 points. The tournament will be fully seeded by the high runs in the prelims. Any run over 100 on the TV table is eligible for a $500 bonus (150 gets $1000) from Accu-stats in return for commentary by the shooter. Any run of more than 50-and-out will be allowed to continue.

Prizes ($10k added, entries 100% returned, based on 25 players):

Prelim prizes each day: 1st $300, 2nd $200, 3rd $100
(total $600x4 = $2400, one prize per player each day)
Finals: 1st $2400, 2nd $1700, 3rd-4th $1100, 5th-8th $700
Bonus: $1000 for high run overall.
Special bonus: $1000 for the first run over 200.

The above payouts are with only 25 $100 entries and will vary according to the final number of entries.

Bob, Thanks for the straight pool challenge. I think it is a big part of the resurging interest in 14.1. I look forward to seeing some excellent play.

BTW - The 14.1 room looks pretty good with the tables having plenty of room. Enough room for some spectators as well.

Great to hear that they are doing it again.

And i agree that this is a contributing force in keeping the great game of Straight Pool alive and kicking !

Does this mean with accu-stats there that they will be recording it for DVD sale, or is it just for internet feeds ??????

Thanks
Steve

I think Accustats is probably just recording the quarterfinals, semis and finals like they did last year.

Elvicash is recording all the early qualifying runs.

I'll be there tomorrow to check it out.
:D

This is one of the biggest things I look forward to in regards to the DCC. Being from the midwest getting to see top level straight pool in person is a rarity. Thanks so much Bob.

Word !

I Am gonna stay away from this post because i dont wanna know the runs. Just in case they do come out on DVD!

Darren Appleton 114
Huidji See 114
Beau Runninger 100, (99)
Danny Harriman 93
Charlie Williams 86 (?) Something like that. it was late last night

Niels did not qualify and he shot all his bullets

Mika has some tries left; Hohmann has some, Ralf hasn't even tried yet. Archer has some more tries left.

Danny Harriman 114, (93)
Beau Runninger 100, (99)
Thorsten Hohmann 100 (on his last bullet)
Charlie Williams a "smooth" 85

I sat in on John Schmidt's first try, the way he moved around the table told me he should be able to get over 100 easy. I tried & made 12. :frown:

... thorsten plays corey, ...
So Thorsten ran 75-and-out on Corey and continued for the bonus money. Accu-stats is paying $500 for 100 and $1000 for a 150 on the TV table. He missed at 98 when he shot a ball through a narrow gap just after the break shot, and the ball nicked a blocker and wobbled but hung in the pocket. In the previous match, Harriman had a 51-and-out against See and continued but missed at 97 after a tremendous long bank off the foot cushion.

Any updates on the other matches?
In the Appleton-Runninger quarter final, there was a series of safety exchanges at the start and at one point the score was -2 to -18 in favor of Runninger after Appleton had taken a third foul. Appleton got in the first good run with an 85 ending on a miss after the break shot on a ball that barely fit to the pocket. Runninger got in a run of 19 before missing and Appleton ran 19 and out to win 100-27.

In the Schmidt-Williams quarter-final, Schmidt dominated, winning 100-17 in five innings. Schmidt had a high run of 53.
