DCC Bits and Pieces

What in the world is the deal with a gambling casino, of all places, hassling people about making bets on pool games.

I've heard that it's not allowed according to their gambling license. If true, it's certainly not worth losing that.

Sounds like the facility is a real disappointment, even worse than years past.

Iirc, SBE moved to a warehouse type room last year, perhaps it is time to consider the same for dcc?

Many casinos have pacts with the state they're in. These usually forbid any gambling not run/monitored by the casino and said state agency(s). At DCC's in the past they've kinda held their nose/looked the other way on this. I'm not there this year so i can't comment on level of clamp-down but i've heard its real.

As you say, if that is accurate, then they certainly do not want to lose their license due to some petty ass "infraction".
Government again....sticking its nose into the private affairs of citizens. Rules, rules, rules and more rules.
I'm beginning to think the hippies had it right all along, way back there...........
Nothing petty about it. Its all about who's IN. These companies spend millions on these places and ALL action gets whacked-up by the casinos, state, fed, locals. They aren't IN in any way on these pool matches thus the regulations covering it. Ever since DCC moved to the casino they've been aware of these statutes. Its not a big deal until some moron starts flashing his stacks out in the open.

So Larry is still playing? With a prosthetic I assume.
Will this be a first in pool history?
Very sad situation, that infamous Nevel stroke was always a beauty to watch.

On a side note: what's with the policing of betting at a casino? In a week, how many millions are going to exchange hands over the Superbowl through bets? You'd think the casino is getting their end through the rooms/customer business. So why chase the gambling off?

There was a guy who won 6 Three cushion world championships with a prosthetic leg.
Robert L. Cannefax was his name, about 1917 to 1923 I believe.
He had a booklet called the Cannefax Charts, that showed the tracks on a billiard table.

Larry came thru Tallahassee and spent a few months there while I was in school. Our pool room had some bar boxes downstairs that we barely used. A couple of Gainesville road runners stopped by and Larry would spank their butts and send them home crying and broke. Damn that guy could play with that big cue ball. I seem to remember his wife/girlfriend had some pretty serious demons that distracted him at times but when he was “on” Larry could find an extra gear.

The Horseshoe is a great venue for the players spectators and gamblers. The overhead seating over the main floor is very cool. The action and practice rooms spread around are great for money matches. You just need to be a little cool about flashing money.

The downsize is the somewhat remote location from town and the long walk from hotel rooms to tournament room.

Also, I'm sure the casino is adding prize money to the events.

Im not sure of anything but id bet that Greg is getting at least a cut of the room revenue which allows him to add $$ to the pot which he does.

Ya think? First i've heard of that.

Well maybe not directly, but heavy discounting to rent the playing venue thus enabling DCC to afford the added money to the events.

See at the bottom of the main page SPONSORS = Horseshoe Southern Indiana, Diamond, Simonis, etc..

derby city

just a curiosity question here

do you see a lot of pros/top money players playing with carbon fiber shafts?

Yeah, that's probably right.

Dennis didn't use it on the Bigfoot. Watched Busty, Morra, LeeVan, and Filler didn't use it. Filler did use it at the Mosconi cup. Shaw didn't use it. I'm not sure if he used at the MC. I think Melling uses the revo, but I didn't watch his match.

Melling, Mika, SVB, Thorpe are a few that use cf shafts. I think Chang Jung Lin started using a Mezz cf in the last year or so. Used one at the Int'lOpen.
