I just got back from the DCC and was there for 7 days. The tournament seemed to be in some what of a confusion as to when people were suppose to play. During the banks they called a match which one player had already been eliminated the day before and in the one pocket a friend of mine was called to play 4 or 5 times one day and never played at all, also the first guy he beat it showed his name on the winners side until the next day. I did hear that they are using a new program and board for the tournament and they were still ironing out all the details. I thought overall it was a good tournament and talked to lots of people who felt the same way. It did seem like everytime you turned around you had to pay for something though and the walk from the hotel to the tournament area was tiring after several times a day. One thing that a lot of people were talking about was having to pay to get into the action room if you were not in the tournament, I even had them tell me once that I had to pay to use the computer upstairs because it was on the other side of the guy who checks the badges. I think the Executive West was a better place but you can only do with what you got and I think they did the best they could. This year will give them something to work from and next year might be better. On a good note, I think WWW.THEACTIONREPORT.COM did a great job for the limited space they had to deal with.

I think maybe they should just scrap the computer program, and do a live draw for every round, right there at the main desk, using poker chips with a players id number on it. It might be time consuming, but at least it would keep things in line. They could then input the names manually to put on the screen.

I think maybe they should just scrap the computer program, and do a live draw for every round, right there at the main desk, using poker chips with a players id number on it. It might be time consuming, but at least it would keep things in line. They could then input the names manually to put on the screen.

Actually, I had thought it a few times in the past, but this year was blantent cheating and favortism.

You want examples?

If you were a top name player you played downstairs with PLENTY of room and access. The no names were always playing upstairs and in some corner. Hell it was like a seeded tourneyment, the top players had all of the advantages.

Secondly, if you were a top player, there were no forfiets for them. This has been the case for the last few years, if it was late or the pro didnt want stay up to play, they would reschedule for sometime the next day. Or if they got beat they never showed a loss... .

The computer problems were terrible, but they will never do a live draw in front of all the people. Draws are done in a back room, away from everyone.

I was born on a day, it just wasnt yesterday.........

I was only there for 4 days to hang out. I had a great time and plan on attending again. I do think the layout was a little tough. There was not alot of spectator room for watching the action leaving alot of people standing in doorways and people on chairs behind them in some cases. The bracket system appeared to be an issue the whole time I was there. I figure it was the firsy year and they will work out some of the kinks next year.
On the positive side, I got to meet alot of folks, play some pool and play some craps and hang out with old friends. I left a $1200 winner from the casino. I got some great news from inside pool (watch for future issues). One of the highlights of my trip was un pool related but I met someone the last night I was there that definately made the trip worthwile. For that reason alone this was my best derby ever! No, my friend. What I am saying is the top players didnt play where their cues could hit the walls....

I was upstairs watching one of friends playing and upstairs, I never (okay seldom) saw a top pro playing.

Downstairs, I never (okay seldom) saw a noname player playing.....

Your post is headed the direction of how the tournament was ran. I saw the issues. It did seem as if all the named players were on the tournament floor and the no names were tucked away somewhere. I was sitting in the chairs on the lower level next to guy who had a friend playing in the one pocket. This friend would come over by us every 15 min to tell us his opponent hadn't showed up yet. This happened many times. Turns out this friend was waiting 45 plus minutes for his opponent. The opponent he was waiting for was Jeremy Jones.

The venue was fantastic. It looked nice, the staff was good and the food was phenomenal. The buffet had a chef behind a hunk of roast beef that was the best roast I have ever tasted.

The derby allows you to bump elbows with the pros. No other sport is like this. Because the pros seemed to be just one of the rest of us, they weren't being hounded by people for autographs and pictures. Efren could sit out in the halls and talk without people drooling all over him. That is my favorite part. The pros are pool players like everyone else there.

I had a great time. Very positive experience. The tournament may have had it's ups and downs, but overall was great. I would say the venue was huge, but still not big enough to house the Derby City Classic. Will there ever be a place the house the Derby City classic?

We ate at Binions Saturday night and it was great, if you dont mind spending the money. I had the prime rib and it was $40 all together which isnt bad but a friend of mine had a steak and an appitizer and it was over $100. I think these places need to think about these things and how a lot of people dont want to spend all that money. I was there 6 nights with 3 or 4 other people and spent about $350 just on food and the room and only ate at the steak house once. Another thing, i went through about $200 in the casino winning and losing and got comped nothing and a friend of mine lost $500 playing blackjack and got $4 off his dinner that cost about $15 in a place that was closed about half the time i was there......thats pretty good odds.

If I'm at a machine, spending my money, I can't believe they still wanted $3.50 for a beer. I almost told her to take it back, and cashed out the machine. It made me wanna stay out of the casino altogether. I'll keep my money and take it to Vegas with me. If not for DCC, they won't get my money at all at the boat.

Your exaclty right, the only reason I was in the casino at all was because I was with a friend and he lost about $700 playing roulette and got nothing.
