Dechaine vs Hatch - Day 3

Race to 25

Mike Dechaine is at 24 - 17 for Hatch

Hatch is now swearing and carrying on. Oops... now he's taking a break.

Hatch has a great game but lacks sportsmanship.

It's OVA

25 - 18 Mike Dechaine

No interview

No end of match hand shake

Nuttin

i honestly felt like hatch was being very unsportsmanlike. im not saying that mike was but hatch was a lot worse. and honestly i saw it other days too which was kind of annoying the whole time.

Interesting Ending / Congrats to Dechaine

I was pulling for Dennis all the way, but hats off to Dechaine.

He earned every ball in his victory and showed great resiliency.

Frankly, I didn't think Dechaine had a chance.

Boy, was I SUPER WRONG.

Good for him.

From the TAR podcast and how Dennis was talking during it I don't think Dennis really felt Dechaine had a realistic chance either. When he was asking about the "next" TAR match and if it was going to be between the winner of his match and the SVB/Archer match you could almost see that he meant "do I get to play the winner of the SVB/Archer match after this?".

I think Hatch sees himself as an equal to Archer and SVB and sees himself as a part of the "top" teir in the USA pool scheme while he sees Dechaine as part of a teir that is a step below. This weekend he got a shock on day 1 that woke him up to reality, and then he was in a dog fight to try and prove to himself his initial feelings about his place were still correct. He lost and now he might need to come to grips with the fact that he is simply not quite as good as he thought he was and that Dechaine is actually tough action for him, as would alot of other people a step below the top teir still be.

I think his match with Appleton gave him abit of false confidence, Appleton went into that match having no clue what he was in for in a race that long and figured out fast that such a grind was not for him. Dennis on the other hand simply thought he beat Appleton and was thus at least as good as him, and as Appleton is a world 10-ball champ, a 2 time US Open winner, Dennis felt he himself must be every bit as much world class.

The reality is Dennis has alot of natural talent and he is good, but he was never going to be a top player without putting himself out there and playing the international circuit and constantly playing world class fields. Torturing your local tour stops just does not cut it, it can make you feel invincible, but you are only invincible against shortstops, and Dechaine is not a shortstop, he tortures those local tours as well. While Hatch and Dechaine are playing in those things though, the true elite level players like Souquet, Wu, Appleton, SVB, Chang, Orcullo, and others are playing each other in 40k first place events. Hatch should NEVER expect to be their equal when he is not even playing on that actual circuit.

I think he got a reality check on where he truly stands in the whole pecking order and I am going to guess he does not like what he learned.

What do you think Justin pulled the players outside for?

It was kind of muffled but right before that either Mike or Dennis said they were thinking about quiting because of the other guys crap.
