Are you talking about playing for the cash? If so you shouldn't base your opinion off of a tournament win.

Mike was in the zone and played great pool. He is an excellent player. Shawn played pretty good as well but when he made a mistake Mike capitalized on it.

But what it all boils down to is this, Mike was the best player at that tournament, at that point in time. That's all. Almost everyone there was capable of wining it. Tomorrow may be a different story.

Been a while

I haven't posted in a while, and just happened to look here today. First off big deal he won a tournament, he is a good racker.

He should has lost last year to Adam Tanner an A player from Syracuse, who out shot him, but no, Dechaine racked him, just like he racked everyone else this week. He is still a duche, owes people money, wins tournaments and never pays people back. Like Raj Hundal wrote on facebook, good luck in your carrer if the best thing you do is rack. end of story

That and ANY American on any given day can beat him, he isn't that hard to beat, I'd put Mills int he box with him playing rack your own any day.

Fact is he will never be mainstream like SVB, Archer, Deule and others... Becuase at the end of the day VERY few people like him, and his fan base is limited to Snookers regulars... You have to be liked by many and he has the personality of a rock. PS. I hate Mike Dechaine I think he is bad for pool and not the image of professional pool.

i have seen him play alot, he is getting better and better he breaks as good as anyone and shoot straight, no american has to like it playin him.
weather you like him or not, i dont care.
Bottom line is he plays great.

OK, educate me.

This wasn't rack your own, Mike was racking for Shawn. And Shawn spent a HUGE amount of time making Mike adjust every rack. I would think the rack must've been pretty close to right by the time all that was done. So what does Mike being a "racker" mean?

This is a serious question. I honestly don't get what you mean.

I really liked watching Raj play and I like his fast paced attitude. No BS, just shoot!

As far as Mike is concerned, I don't know him personally and have never met him. Hate is a strong word for me but to each his own. If he has a habit of not paying people back then I can understand why some may not like him.

This is why I like rack your own.

First and foremost, your words seem a wee bit harsh to me about Mike Dechaine. I don't really know him, though I do remember seeing him shoot in a couple of Joss Tour tournaments when he was a young'n. He's a member of this forum, and it hurts me personally to see words written about him that he most likely will read in the future. I think it's cruel. There's a a few pool peeps I don't like, but I have refrained from posting my feelings about them personally on this forum, even after being poked and prompted to do so. There are some things in pool should not be posted in a public pool forum.

About the rack riggers, well, I'm not aware of Mike's ability to rig a rack, but I can say with 100-percent confidence that half of those "regular" tournament soldiers know, and are, rigging racks in tournament play. And there ain't nothing anybody can do to stop it. The only way to thwart rack riggers is to have a neutral racker for every single match, not allowing either player to complain about the rack. What they get is what they get from the neutral racker. Unfortunately, that is too expensive to do in pool tournaments. :frown:

Tournament directors and referees end up making more money than the majority of tournament competitors in pool. There's something wrong with that picture, but the payouts in pool just suck a big weenie. :embarrassed2:

Whether a player rigs a rack to get to the finish line or not is something that can't be remedied. Even with the new rack gizmos, there's always going to be a complaint from somebody.

Winning a Turning Stone Joss tournament is a biggie. I saw the draw Mike had in this tournament, and it sure seemed a lot tougher than some of the other creampuff draws the other pool stars got.

Congratulations to Mike Dechaine! :clapping::clapping::clapping:

Well I hate to tell you this but as Cryden said anyone could have won that tourney. Popping off on here after one decent win is a little ambitious. For example He played Putnam one match before he had to play him again. Putnam DESTROYED him. I get it if you are friends with him or have some kind of special reason to be his supporter of fan and I am sure he appreciates your enthusiasm for him. I would maybe wait til he wins like 3 in a row before I go off with "I'd like to see any american play him" Just my opinion.

i hate the way he chalks his cue, he switch hands. He plays good very slow at times, but for some reason i was not on his side all this tournament, i wanted my home boy Brandon Shuff to win it all, but unfortunate, Mike won..i loose.

When I used to see a young Mike Dechaine at tournaments, he was traveling with, I think, Ivaylo Petrov. Ivaylo was very personable and friendly, and Mike was a chubby little kid, kind of quiet and unassuming-type personality.

He's come a long way. Gosh, he's slimmed down, has a nice physique.

That extended race in the finals is a ball-buster for the older players. Been there and experienced that, seeing my horse come in second place in the race to 13 against Hohmann. Well, the next best thing to winning is coming in second place. Congratulations to Shawn Putnam and Mike Dechaine!

Look at those cute little dimples. :p

Very well said UGETTHE6, You hit the nail right on the head, Very few people outside of SNOOKERS like him. You would have to search long and hard to find a person that hates him more then I do. Justin from TAR said it best ( No one in Billiards wants to work with him or do anything with him because of the way he is.)

with winner breaks it makes it completely different, i wonder if it was alternate the break who would have won, maybe Shane!!

Alternate break is a whole nother game for sure. ;)

Brandon had a very good tournament to come in third in that field of pool stars. At least he put some jingle in his pockets. Good for Brandon!

I notice Brandon ain't wearing a baseball cap much anymore. :p

Like him or not he is one of the top 3 Americans right now. I don't know enough about him personally to form an opinion on him as a person but as a pool player you have to respect him. From what I've seen of him on streams, TAR, the Mosconi Cup etc. he is a strong player and only getting better. He said during some commentary he did during Turning Stone that he's now sponsored by Predator and plans on dedicating more time to working on his game. If that's the case then he will definitely be a force to be reckoned with on the WORLD stage in the future. Very talented and to me he's part of the future of American pool.

Why does it have to be an "American" thing? He's a great pool player. All nationalities have some. I get sick of the argument that this country or that country is the best. Does it make you feel better that you are from the same country as the person who won a tournament? If so then stop by my house, I got a batch of cookies that just came out of the oven, you can have one.

This whole thing comes of like a my daddy could beat up your daddy argument.

To Mike, Shawn, Raj and all the others great job. I really enjoyed watching the matches.

Any American?

Put up some big $ against Van Boening, Archer or Strickland (just to name 3) in a match of any real length, and I think you'll get more action than you want.

Yes, he plays tough, but I can't stand his almost constant asking for re-racks, even with a TD racking, and his bad racks for opponents. Pissing off his opponents seems to be a strength he relies on.

No rack issues this time, when he lost to Putnam it was because he had no control of the table due to Putnam making a ball and getting shape on the 1 in that corner with the cue ball heading to the other side of the same end of the table. With Mike racking for him. When Putnam missed, he had no shots.

The finals was were the rolls evened out, and Putnam did miss 2 makable shots that he hit with spin which caused the misses. 2 shots at their level can mean a guy who controls the set for another 2-3-4 games per miss.
