Always listen to your gut, Ron. I've kicked my butt ever since I sold mine about 18 years ago.Yea, you may be right. Something in my gut is telling me that. It is a great player.
Looks different at the joint rings as wellShafts are very mismatched with respect to the Ferrule lengths, ferrule materials, and millimeter disparity.
do you know are these two shafts original to the cue?
Thx!
Also regarding the shaft collars it could just be the picture angle but can you comment on the ring work, how well they match each other and the length of the black phenolic on the collars? they don't look exactly the same but again could just be the camera angle, And finally, the pilots look very different from each other.Paul Mottey four Ebony point four veneer, natural, green, orange, black in to out. You were quick to accuse me of being deceptive in the other mottey thread when I most certainly was not You said that i omitted important information. Then you post this sale thread and in your very comprehensive description of your cue somehow you forget to mention that you have at least one non original shaft amd prob not even a mottey. That I had to call you out on it in order to get you to acknowledge this *important information*I will try to answer questions. I posted close ups of the ferrules and shaft collars knowing I would get questions. I noticed there are small differences in the ring work on the collars. What I noticed is the red slot part of the ring seems to be slightly thinner on one ring than the other. The other thing I noticed was the machining of the brass insert area was a little different. The ferrules are definitely different, no doubt both in length and material which I had stated that one was fiber and one was micarta. The question is, are they both Mottey shafts. I really don't know that answer. Maybe they were built by two different people in the same shop. I just don't know. Maybe a second shaft was built later by Mottey or even some other guy. Maybe the brass inserts had a different thickness shoulder and they tackled the problem differently during machining. I have purchased inserts and have found different shoulder thickness on inserts. The guy I got the cue from just said the cue had two shafts and I bought it. That was all the information he gave me. Your questions are good questions but I don't think I really have the answers for sure. Cue sure does play good though. What my gut tells me is that one shaft is original and a second shaft was made later by either Mottey or maybe somebody else.
besides the point, why not go into the shaft shituation in the opening post?I don't have proof that both shafts are not Mottey shafts and neither do you.

There's a plaid elephant walking around this thread that shouldn't be ignoredNo problem. The seller I got the cue from is giving me an answer about the shafts tomorrow. If they are not original shafts he is going to take the cue back and give me another cue.
Yep, there sure is a "plaid elephant," farting out big elephant turds in this thread. There's a plaid elephant walking around this thread that shouldn't be ignored
How does the way you presented this cue Square with your commentary in my Paul mottey sale thread
