Why are people so hard prople that play so delibrate players ? , i think it is very on fair in my opinon. I play very delibrate not that i do not have talent or can't play. I play a good shortstop speed and i use systems when i play an to play as perfect as possible. I look at all my shots ,safetys an all my options at the table when it is my turn at the table as i considor this apart of my pre shot routine. I try to play as perfectionist as some painting a picture or someone who takes pride in what they do. In return me other delibrate players get ridiculed by tournament directors an other players as we compete. I read the rules on there web sites most them have no such rules of shot clocks, but when start play in theses tournaments the won't put u on shot clocks an ***** an complain. Its takes me and my opponet atleast 12 to 10 mins to play agame of 9-ball and 12 to 15 mins to play a game of 10-ball. I just want to see what others think of delibrate players and what other delibrate players think. ty professor

how long in between shots is a deliberate player?

how long is a slow player?

i consider myself a deliberate player, but i cant think of ever taking over 30 seconds to decide and take my shot when theres trouble on the table...

If you'd watched the stream from Montana last night, you'd have seen a lady player who would take 8-9 minutes per shot...I kid you not! That's too slow. What's sad is, she won the match...eventually.

Archer plays slow. But IMO he's slow playing as a way to shark. That dude fires em on in when he's practicing but when he's playing someone he will take five minutes on very routine shots. Its brutal. I know some people take their time. There is a line where its deliberate and just plain too slow.

i dont think hes sharking....i think hes just ocd....

15 min for a game of 9 ball seems crazy, it would have to be a really clustered up table or something. i know a guy that shoots real slow like that drives me crazy. i figure out what i need to do or look at my options for sure but when its time to go u gotta go.

Big Arm John

Big Arm John is the slowest player I have ever seen.

I am just glad he isnt a fireman, or there wouldnt be a house in the Indianapolis area standing...

Deliberate play is fine. Going over 1 min per shot is not. Keep it under 1 min and you are within the rules.

Slow/deliberate play is often times frustrating for any TD trying to complete a tourney. Gambling is whatever the players agree to as far as rules.

Think about how long it takes for a normal shot, an average shot.....actually count out 30 seconds to get a good feel for just how long that is.....

Less than 10 seconds per shot = quick
10-20 secs per shot = average
20-30 secs per shot = deliberate
30+ secs per shot = you are annoyingly slow and 90+% of players find it annoying to play you, whether in practice or in a tourney

There is a very thick and easily understandable line between being deliberate and being just plain disrespectfully slow - ie, slow enough to cause delays in tournaments....if 9 out of 10 players sampled out of a full tournament field think you are slow, it's not an opinion....it's a fact - you are slow....

If 'deliberate' and 'slow' players take the same time to play a game, then IMO there isn't any difference at all.

One has an excuse and the other is still deciding... either one will not be tolerated in a decently run tournament.

Longer drawn out matches (slow or deliberate) during tournaments creates problems for everyone. That is why there are rules about slow or deliberate play.

If you are warned about delaying the tournament due to slow play or deliberate play, how are you going to be able to heed the warning if you can't speed up your play?

Are you willing to lose because you are slow or deliberate? Shot clock violations will mean giving up BIH because you cannot shoot in 30 seconds or less. You will have to adapt or not compete.

How long would a tournament last if everyone played at your pace? I think you need to learn how to pick up the pace because it isn't fair to make the entire tournament revolve around you. How much time do you really need to see the best shot in most situations? In nine ball there are mostly only two options: play safe or run out.

I agree with most here anything over a minute per shot on average is very long for nine ball or ten ball.

People are hard on slow players for lots of reasons

- It's annoying to watch someone take 1 minute to play an obvious shot.

- It's annoying to see a player get down over a shot take all their warm up strokes and then get up look at the angle and then do it all over again.

- It's annoying to see a player survey the table check their tip, chalk up, pick at lint, chalk up, check the shot from the opposite side, pick up more lint, chalk up and then shoot. The whole time the shot was a straight in stop shot.

-It's annoying to split table time with a slow player.

Ive been trying to slow my game down too. I read recently in a billiards digest where Shaun Wilkie was saying his game improved greatly when he slowed it down. I also noticed that Archer seemed to really take off when he slowed way down as well. The one thing I admire about very deliberate players is that they hardly ever make silly mistakes. I seem to do that alot and in reflection its mostly because i get in a hurry to get the shot over with. Sometimes its impatience but other times its because of pressure.

Im hoping to improve in this area but I dont think I will ever get to the point where it takes me 15 min on avg to shoot a rack of 9ball. I dont know though....maybe I would shoot a few balls better if I really slowed it down like Archer and Kid D do.

I'm watching the opponents shots and I know where my balls are (the ones on the table) so at any time that my opponent misses, I already have a good idea of what my 1st and second shots are by the time I step up to the table.

shouldn't speed increase as game progresses?

Isn't it also true that the amount of time you need to line up the 8 ball with only the 9 left should be less than what you need coming to the table on your opponent's dry break? I think everyone understands that, and the frustration comes when you get a guy who spends 90 seconds lining up the 9 or the 1. The permutations and variations that might result from shooting the first of nine have to be different from those that result with only two balls on the table. Point is, when you take a long time and there's a lot to think about, ok, but if there's really only one shot to take and you still take 90 seconds to shoot it, sounds like it's an issue with your self confidence as opposed to going through a routine and checking everything off. Or, as someone else suggested, just another way to try to get an advantage over your opponent.
