Delta-13 rack inserts

I take my spare Delta 13 (the less expensive version) to league night because it beats the flimsy plastic racks every place uses. And nobody wants to use the Magic Rack or any variation of it.

And I figure it's more durable in that environment than my Diamond wood rack.

I bought the inserts years ago and they are necessary.

$16 and this would work fine. you basically pay more to do the same thing

I have the rack you listed and a delta elite. The wood rack is great, after I modified it to have felt (about the thickness of 3 playing cards) on the inside of the rack. Without modification it was still decent, but getting a truly tight rack was an exercise in frustration. It would be better than off a flimsy bar rack, but not perfect without the felt stuck on with 3m spray adhesive.

It's one of the better wood racks I've used but the perfect geometry isn't there. Perfect is perfect, and the delta is as close to that as you can get.

In this case, perfection costs about 10X the price of good.

i dont own that particular but i have some that are even cheaper that rack just fine. it was just an example. i get racks that are tight.

I have the inserts. Just to dress the rack and no other reason. I don't think its a great noise reducer. Simply rack the balls gently. No need to shake and bake. I find it interesting that we want to dampen the racking sound and go the other end to break/begin an 8 or 9 ball game. That is ear piercing. Anyway I bought the inserts from Seyberts.

Embarrassing to admit that I own one of these super spendy racks, but the redeeming factor is that a friend got it for me as a gift. They do rack the balls great for 1p, but the clinky sound is indeed annoying.

Didn’t know about these insert insert panel things until now. Agreed, its a hokey marketing design, but will order some to try, plus they will cover some dorky engraving that my buddy put on the rack.

Cheers! ✌️

I probably would have bought one also, except I could not figure out a good way to bring it around with me without looking like I packed to go away for a week vacation when heading to the pool hall LOL They are machined and designed well, just ended up being overtaken in ease of use and cost by the template racks. Still good to use for 14.1 and one pocket though.

One of the things I don't like about many wood racks is that the finish on them can stick to the balls in some climates, metal and plastic racks don't do that much.

I made a couple sets for mine, they make it much quieter.

I suspect that your "just fine" is very different from SVB's "just fine". I doubt that your racks are as tight as the pros want these days. Whether it makes any difference to the average home/bar player is another matter.

I thought the exact same thing. Then I realized what my time is worth. Sourcing insert material, precision cutting, correct glue etc etc. You easily could spend a couple hours in actual time and labor, plus materials.

My time is worth WAY more than $40 an hour.

Knowing these factors, I feel these ARE PRICED correctly, and I am quite sure the DELTA marketing people agree, that is why they are this price...

And I also agree, these are MANDATORY. Drive you insane without them...

However, I would never stop a man from a learning exercise, so have at it if you feel you need to make your own.
We have a winner!!!!!! Great answer, people don't value their time. I wouldn't think that you could go to a leather shop and get them any cheaper. I would guess someone who cuts a lot of leather maybe uses a laser, that's an expensive machine to buy, they want to get paid when firing that thing up. If someone cuts the pieces by hand it will take longer and once again they will want to get paid for their time. I get people like that all the time who want something small welded, they are like "it will only take 5 minutes, it shouldn't cost more than $10 bucks". They could not be more wrong, still need to prep the parts, need consumables including filler rod, tungsten, and gas not to mention my time and electricity and lets not forget the overhead which needs to be covered before I make a penny so that I can even have a door of a shop for them to walk thru. So yeah, to me $40 bucks is probably about right. I don't have the inserts in my Delta Elite because I just don't find it that loud although I don't throw the balls in the rack from a foot away then run the rack back and forth 20 times across the racking area before I settle on my final rack position. There is no doubt that they can be extremely loud, I have been to tournaments where they are in use and some people just rack very loud, even with wood racks, probably templates too I'm guessing. :)

if the balls are all touching how much tighter can it get?

REAL TALK. I thing you hit the nail on the head.

Its a rack like the Delta but I wouldn't say it does the same thing. Every time I rack with my Delta I get a good rack without having to manipulate the rack or balls. You can also spot a small ball with a Delta because they are so precise and will not change shape with season, temp, and humidity. The head ball will not stick to a Delta when it gets damp out either.

You don't just have leather and glue laying around? The precision cutting is pretty easy, just fire up SOLIDWORKS and make a quick 1:1 drawing, print and cut.

Maybe it'd take thirty minutes, but a fun thirty minutes.

How the other half lives.
