Delta-13 Rack

Hey, I just saw Stevekur1 mention this rack, which I've never seen before. I always wondered why nobody made a rack that didn't flex. I'm going to get one of these, but I find that their website really needs a better description of their product and the differences between models. Maybe it's there somewhere, but I couldn't find it. What's the difference between the basic model and the elite? It looks a little different, and I guess you can add text to the elite model, but is that it?

Can anyone fill me in on anything to look (out) for with this product before I buy? A search on AZ didn't come up with much.

Thx.

Dan:

Try this (this was discussed in the 14.1 forum recently):

Actually, there's LOTS of info about the Delta-13 / Delta-13 Elite in this (the 14.1) and the Main forum. It sounds like you possibly may not be using the Search feature correctly if you say it didn't come up with much.

But I hope this is a good start.

Yes Delta 13 there is no substitute. I don't feel a need for the elite model which has the brushed aluminum side walls and has the monograming on it.

The $35 model works fantastic, better than ant other rack I have used in all the years that I am playing. Racks open beautifully and it seems with alot more ease. Especially when you add a set if aramiths to it.. But that's a whole other post to make !!! Lol

we just recently got a few for my home pool room. we got the basic model and it works every bit as good as the more expensive one (as i have used both) i find that it really works good in straight pool, getting the rack tight with our old racks was a challenge and in fact it started effecting the way the balls were breaking up hinder possible run opertunities. i highly recomend this rack. also like i said before it seems the only difference between both models seems to be cosmetic.

The Elite model is machined and the regular rack is cast. The Elite is made of 6 pieces (3 corners and 3 sides I think), while the cast base model is one piece. The tolerances on the Elite model are guaranteed and each rack comes with a spec sheet.

I have the regular model and love it. I had no reason to pay a significant premium for the Elite. Yes, the specs are guaranteed, but if you buy the regular model from a reputable source and it's out of spec you should be able to return/exchange it if it isn't giving you a nice tight rack - because it should. Having said that, I think Delta puts out a quality product and I would think it would probably be rather unusual to buy a base model and not have it work as it was supposed to.

The only drawback to the Deltas is that being made of metal they are loud. This is remedied with the leather inserts that are available. I also place the rack in position first and then load the balls in. While I do this out of respect for the equipment (cloth wear) this also eliminates some of the noise from loading at the rail and rolling the whole thing back and forth into position. Also, if you have one hand on the rack while loading it dampens the sound a lot.

It is THE rack for straight pool.

Thanks everybody. Looks like I'll pick up the basic model. My racks are always a bit loose, so maybe it'll help.

And you'll be a happy camper no matter which model you choose! Obviously, those that chose the basic model earlier in this and other threads have strong opinions about why NOT to choose the Elite model (e.g. the cost), but considering it's supposed to be a one-time purchase, no matter the model you choose, it will quickly pay for itself over and over. That is to say, the initial cost is MOOT over the long haul.

I personally love my Elite model, and the fact that I never have to worry about it chipping, since it's anodized, and not powder-coated. Actually had some numbnuts opponent drop it on a concrete floor from about waist-high, and other than the incredible racket it made (the clanging) -- as well as my eyes turning red and my forehead getting hot enough to fry an egg at this guy's ineptitude -- the rack was undamaged, save some nicks and dings on the aluminum corners. And it's personalized as well, so less of a worry of "having to keep my eyes on it at all times."

But again, the point to keep in mind is that the initial purchase cost, no matter which model, is going to DISAPPEAR after a few months of use.

You'll love it! Good choice with getting a Delta-13!

I just happened right to post this in another thread. The Delta base model is on sale for $45 at the AZB Marketplace. Add a 2 pack of BD chalk and you qualify for the free shipping on orders over $49.

Thanks Sean. It's amazing how much excitement a piece of aluminum can generate. :) I think I want the base model so I can keep my mind on running balls while racking, rather than admiring my monogrammed rack. :embarrassed2:
