It only bugs me when folks who never practice, drink too much, and then perform poorly, start to get really down on themselves after a loss.

Actually Dave, Fabian was one of the guys I suggested he play if he was looking for competition. He looked at me and said, "Beat him".

I don't think Fabian reads here but one of the other guys from the hall does.


My favorite is the custom made cue tips. I doubt anyone could ever top that one. And what he is referring to is Milk Duds.
I told him I could make him one for half that price but he wouldn't budge. These ones are apparently soaked over and over and pressed for 6 months. Maybe hes on to something here, I should try it.

I'm taking one on the road...

I'm taking one of the guys from my men's club to play at Valley Forge. Now I am maybe a C and he is a C-. He has been telling everyone that he will probably win the tournament. I only reserved the hotel room until Sat. because I know we will be long gone by then....he insists this was not a wise choice.

Perfect example of this phenomena is MARTY HERMAN on any chat in USTREAM or in real life for that matter.

Every pro player is his best-est friend forever.
He taught every pro pool player in existence how to play.
He can beat every person in chat at both 3 cushion and pool, and i quote,"Is there anyone in here stupid enough to gamble with me?" Which he will eventually ask if you let him go off and pump himself up to that level without cutting him down a few times before hand.
Anyone who doubts him or questions him is "SCUM, or CANCER"

And this is just an aside, He sold a southwest to every pool player that has ever owned one.

I didn't see this option in the poll.Since I do not believe it is my responsibly to look after every other pool player that I know,I just focus on my own game.If I focus on my own game I will likely play better and everyones play speaks for itself.

I think the term that should be used here is resolution of dissonance: I have to explain to myself (and others) why I have spent so much time and money and cannot shoot up to my own expectations.

Same as the guy who spent XX thousands of dollars or a car or home. He has to “justify” his efforts and the justifications can at times get surreal.

People are more willing to go along with what they would like to be the truth. Maybe some people have to feel a certain amount of happiness or contentness before being able to move on.. confusing themselves or convincing themselves of something may be the way they get around it. I imagine that the more somebody does such a thing, the better they get at it or the less resistant one's mind becomes to it.

The sad thing is that the typical delusional pool player misses so much of the enjoyment the game offers. Because of their unrealistic assessment of their abilities they seem aggravated and angry much of the time. I see this phenomena on the golf course a lot too. Too bad, really.

We have all heard it before, when they say .... I use to be soooooooooooo good when I played all the time. I played and paid my way through college. I use to play a thousand dollars a game. Blah, Blah, Blah. The idiots could not hit their a$$ with both hands. They keep running off at the mouth, but you can't even get them to play for a beer.
