Denver, I used to think pool players are lucky.

At least the players who live in an area that had tourneys and events worthy enough to be streamed.

Thanks to many good people and organizations it finally happened in the Denver area, Englewood to be exact.

Straight shots and Nick Varner with the help of Felt Billiards and The Action Report put together a great weekend. There are many others that all needed to pull together in order to make it happen and I just want to express my appreciation.
Even though I was only able to get down to Denver for Saturday I would not have missed it for the world. Denver has a strong pool scene and the quality of players in the area would give anyone fits but the home town boys did not embarrass themselves.

I was able to meet many old friends and make a few more during the day and wished I could have met more. Getting to say hello to Johnny Archer and Dennis Hatch is cool and even though Karen C did not remember me from the Mosconi cup she still took the time to say hi. Justin is one cool cat and he and John Schmidt are great together in the booth.
One of the highlights of the day was to get to see Joey A again, it had been a few years since we had crossed paths. Joey is great to talk with and he had brought his son and a couple of friends with him to compete in the amateur event.

There were many AZers playing and in the crowd and it was fun for me to introduce them to each other. David Alciatore and Dave Gross headed south for the show and Tom Ross was even there. Bud Winger and Bill Meacham were also in the room from Colorado Springs area. I also finally met ShortBusRuss. My bad for missing a few.
A special thanks goes out to upstateAL and cmbwsu for their endless contributions to this event and all the others those two promote.
Congratulations to Mika and Ruben.

Thanks for the free live stream.

I have not yet found out how the amateurs finished.

Good job thanking everybody involved for a great tournament. I hope it becomes a stable annual event with even more pros attending in the future.

I also enjoyed meeting and catching up with some of the AZB'ers in attendance. I wish I had had even more time to do this.

Like you, I look forward to hearing how all of the AZB members did in the amateurs event. Could somebody post the finishing positions if they are known?

Thanks,
Dave

Great to see a new event take off

Nick Varner Commemerative Tournament #1

26 pros paid 200 entry with 10k added, nice

128 amateurs with 50 some on the waiting list

The finals were crazy. Bautista missed a 10 ball hill hill and then Mika won 2nd set 8-3. Alternating break kept sets pretty close. TAR free stream was just great.

We need more events like this, thanks to all ,very nice work.

My good friend and teammate Adam King won it. Had to come from B side to double dip, his last three matches all went hill-hill and he won every one of those games. Just incredible considering we were playing 9ball on a bar box. All I can say for how I finished is if you ain't first you're last.

Great tournament on both sides, I really got the sense that we all knew we were part of something special this last weekend. Huge thumbs up to str8-shots, Felt, and Justin from TAR.

The stream kept me in my chair!

Thanks Justin for looping the stream. Sat down early Saturday night and was froze there until 5am Sunday. That 10 ball K Corr missed against Mika, noooo, Chip & Joey showing off some outstanding break and pocketing skills, Chip & Jayson Shaw's gunfight good gawd they were firing from everywhere. Who called the tow trucks? Sounded like the place emptied out, didn't seem to phase Chip one bit. At 57 I have hope for my game after watching Nick play so good, ripping through the one loss side. This was a high standard set on this inaugural event. Justin was doing well with all his guests in the booth, don't get too hear much from Karen or Joey. Hope this event runs for many more years.

Good to see you Cuebuddy and I was glad to meet JoeyA
and gang from "Narleans" lol
It was nice to have this in Colorado ...
I looked for Measureman but did not see him ,,,
I think he was out getting "WATER"

Yes what a disappointment for Ruben. We have all dogged the money ball before but few have when so much was on the line.

I bet the amature finals were as exciting as the pro side. Thanks for the update.

I agree that Nick Varner was playing so good at one point I could not see how anyone could beat him. He was marvelous.

Bud it would be cool to get a Colorado AZ-tourney going someday soon and try and repeat every year.

I looked for you Bud but the place was packed. What do you think 400 or so?
