So I just booked my stay at the Caesars Southern Indiana for the Derby City Classic in January. What do you guys think? Is it going to happen? Will this horrible pandemic be a bad memory by then? Are all the great players going to be there?

Wow, already booked! I'm impressed. Your optimism is a breath of fresh air in a year in which we've lost the US Open 9-ball, Turning Stone, The International, The World Cup of Pool, The World Pool Masters and many other fine events.

I've got tickets to the Mosconi Cup in December in London but have to wonder whether the event will take place at all. Presently, Americans aren't even allowed to fly into the airports of European Union countries. I wonder whether this will be resolved on time.

As painful as it is to say, I think you are right to be concerned about the Derby City Classic. Places with significant indoor gatherings, such as gyms, hotel convention centers, movie theaters, libraries, museums, and indoor dining establishments, will be the very last things to open. Here in New York, these have all been expressly excluded from Phase 4 of the Reopening Plan and, thus, are not yet on the reopen calendar.

My fingers are crossed with respect to the 2021 Derby City Classic.

I’m with SJM- hopeful life will get back to normal but I doubt we will see “normal” for some time.

I doubt that DCC happens. Its possible a vaccine might be ready but how many will have gotten one??? You really want to go in a hotel full of pool players?? Personally i just don't see it happening.

I don’t think DCC 2021 will happen, personally. If it does, maybe the fields will be limited to 100 per tournament.

ZERO chance of it happening. With the rise of the numbers like we have been seeing, IMO: we are in serious $hit. If the numbers keep increasing as fall and winter come, they are going to go through the roof when winter is in full effect. People are not taking this pandemic seriously and no offense to the OP, but, this post itself is proof that people are not taking this seriously.

Indiana’s governor would make the call to shut down casinos. Right now, he believes kids should go back to school, despite the rise in cases there.
If he’s not concerned, there won’t be any shutdown and Derby City can go on as planned. From there, it would depend on how many players and patrons decide to attend.

I think because the DCC, is post 2020 Election, KUNGFU Flu will be old news, and DCC will be best ever. Am I going no. Too far to drive.

It will probably happen if for no other than contractual reasons.

Attendance by the players will be another matter with many overseas players probably choosing to opt out of airplanes and security and immigration lines.

As to US players, who knows. It's tight quarters at the Derby and personally I doubt I'd go without having received a vaccine. And though I've read a couple of companies are real close, they will still need approval and ramp up production and procure millions and millions of vials and syringes. My guess is we won't have all that by January.

In related news, I got an email a few days ago that the BCA was pushing forward with its Pool League World Championship in March in Vegas.

....snip....

IDK, I think all contracts went out the window this year...

If anyone pulls it off, I think Pat's International Open will be the first event. I can see Pat changing the venue and player policies to help reduce the spread of Corona. I can't see any of that happening at DCC. They can't even record match scores in 20 years, I can't see them changing the entire setup to work better with Corona.

Does anyone know if the World 14.1 in November in Virginia has been cancelled?

You probably mean the American 14.1. I've seen no announcement yet, and I don't see any mention of a cancellation on their website. But since their strong field depends largely on the proximity of the International Open 9-Ball event, which has been postponed for a few months, the American 14.1 will either have to do likewise or proceed with a drastically weaker field.

Maybe they can get the US players to London early to quarantine for several days and test them. Perhaps they can play without fans. I hope the MC still happens

I believe it will happen and I will be there, by far my favorite tournament.

That would be nice. But the tournament probably would be more like it was earlier in its lifetime, with the majority of the players from the USA (or living here) instead of from overseas.
