I'll be there for the one-pocket event, as I'm going to donate to the cause. You'll also recognized me, as I'll be in spectator row immediately following my one-and-out.

Not using the buy back option Fred? :)

I read somewhere that this format made it easier to get max participation from the recreational player. IMO, buyback helps out the champs as much as everyone else. I like the idea though!

How does it work?

Am I correct in thinking that if you enter any one of the tournaments, you are allowed into any & all of the events as a spectator, at no charge?
So, if I were to just get into the Nine Ball (which is the last one) but get there on the first day (Jan 14th), I could watch all & any matches without paying a spectator fee.
IS THIS THE WAY IT WORKS?

The buy-back format provides incentive to all, the "recreational player" and "champs." The money payouts cover a very large percentage of the field as well, stuffing the pockets of many a player.

Last year, a new software was utilized for the designated match times. With the uncertainty of WHO may desire to buy back, if and when a buy-back may occur, it was difficult for the TD's to let the players know when to show up for their matches. Word of advice, get plenty of sleep before arriving in Louisville! There is never a dull moment. :p

This will be the third year for the Annual Louie Roberts Award to be bestowed on the most entertaining player in memory of St. Louis Louie Roberts. Alex the Lion won it the first year, and Tony Watson got the honors last year. Tony stole the show last year providing many hours of rail-side entertainment!

It is convenient to stay at the Executive West, the host hotel. Last year, some folks waited until they arrived to book a room and were saddened to learn that the place was filled up. Anyone planning on attending should take advantage NOW of the special $69 room rate for the Derby City Classic.

Oldhasbeen,
Yes as an participant to the tourney you get into all the other events free of charge. You also get a spouse pass.Which means i have no choice but to bring mind.lol just kidding honey.
I like the buyback option,I didnt use my last year but i definitely will be using it this year.

JAM,
My other half(indygirl70 from rsb) will hopefully get to introduce ourselves to you and Keith this year.Since we didnt get a chance at the Open.

I agree, get plenty of sleep.Because you never know when a high stakes match may break out.

I have the same plans as Fred, I'd buy back if I knew for sure I'd get to play Efren in the next round? But I'm not playing with any hopes of winning, with any luck I'll draw Fred in the first round:-)

Having booked Friday I was unable to get a room the night before the start. They are booked up for that Tuesday. Some other event going on. But was still able to book for the whole week.

I'll be there the 19th through 22nd. Not sure if I'm playing yet. If I can finagle a straight pool match with Efren I think I will pass on the 9-ball tournament (if he's still alive in the one-pocket he won't be able to pound me in straight pool).

Meet and greet.

I'll be there the 19th through the 22nd. I'll be donating in the 9-Ball event.
You can't win unless you play!

Todd.

I’ll be there from 15 – 18. I’ll be wearing a misleading ID badge that says “Player”

I'll be there the 20th thru 22nd. Would love to meet
some of you guys. Just look for a big good looking

If you see this case say Hi.

I just wanted to share a suprise from when I played in the US Open one pocket in Vegas a few weeks ago. I draw Johnny Ervilino my first match. I play him real tight and eventually he leaves me an opening and I run out (4 balls). He doesn’t even make a move to rack the balls! Just sits there like he is waiting for me to keep shooting. Come to find out he expects me to make EIGHT BALLS like everyone else! I'm thinking man at home when I get to four that’s game. But thats not the worst of it. When he gets on a good run he STOPS at eight balls! He’s supposed to at least go to 12! Come all the way from Alaska to play these guys even. Sheesh!

...I bet DCC is the same.
