....in the Coke cans. That should take care of your nutritional needs for 6-8 hours. If you also get one of these:

...and load it with Ensure, you should be able to go 24 hours without needing to buy food. Don't forget to do your 30-day Tai Chi while at the Derby! Have fun!

I think the cost of food is being a little overblown in this thread. Yes, it's overpriced a little, but not that overpriced, and beverages (soda, coffee, water) are all free in the food court. New Albany, eight miles away, is always a nice option, with several good restaurants.

The OP will not be staying at the hotel since he lives within commute distance. If he wants to stay over one night, New Albany hotels are about $100/night.

That also means he will have a car, so he has lots of choices for food. If he plays his cards right, he'll make some friends and they will pay for his meals in return for rides to/from a restaurant in town.

One nearby restaurant offers "The Big Thumper Epic Taco", which seems to include kangaroo meat. They also offer "The Cat's Meow Epic Taco", which likely has fresher meat. 😿 Really. For less adventure, The Exchange Pub and Kitchen is nice and one of the closer ones -- I've eaten there three or four times.

Whitecastle is open 24 hours and is about 20 minutes away. The Waffle House is about 15 minutes, also 24/7.

Every year people b***H about quality of food, price, crappy rooms, crappy room service, crappy service, and all the negative stuff. Week before the Derby the Room are cheaper at the Casino, but Pool Player still come taken advantage of, event is sold out, and if you think the venue operator cares.......they do not, Pool Players, put up with the crap, return, and the place sell out rooms. Plus profits from crappy over price food, and cleans up.

Who is smarter Horse Shoe Management? Or the Guests, aka Pool Player & Fans? Depend on your prospective.

It’s been years since I’ve been on here!
Hello and happy new year AZer’s.

An opportunity has came up for me to knock attending the DCC off my bucket list! I’m super excited but I’m worried I have no clue what I’m doing and will miss something.

I read through the website and it seems I’ve already missed the opportunity to play or even get VIP seating at the tv table. So it looks like I’m stuck with general admission and wandering around.

I don’t need a room as I don’t live too far away now.

Any advice? Insight? Etc is greatly appreciated.

Carl
No Shows happen.... get on the list or in line/or?

Yeah I hear ya. I honestly don’t get all the hate for the food there. Yeah it isn’t a 5 star restaurant but anything I got last year over the 9 days filled the hole and wasn’t half bad and much better than cooking in my room or eating crackers and cheese.

when i go to new places i enjoy hitting great places to eat there. that can be a nice part of any trip and certainly memorable.
and including sightseeing around the area.

if you go for 9 days that is 2.5 percent of your total yearly present lifetime spent there and like 5 percent of your free time in life.
spending it sitting watching pool and eating what you dont like may not be the best thing.

Dont listen to all the negativity and enjoy yourself. This will be my third year and I hope that I can go for years to come.

I found a restaurant that is 10 minutes away that has great food and is very cheap.
