Derby City Ring Ten Ball Game

I spoke with Greg sullivan yesterday and he suggested that AZ sponsor a player in the Ring Ten Ball game. He asked me to see if I could organize it.

Here is the deal. Six players put up $3,000 each and play for the entire $18,000. Sometimes the final two players will make some kind of deal.

The player Greg and I picked for this is John Schmidt since he is a poster on here that many of you like, and admire for his pool skills. I've been in communication with John and he is ready, willing and able to play.

So the cost to sponsor a player is $3,000 total. I propose we sell ten shares for $300 each. I will buy the first one, so I need nine more to make it happen.

Remember, if John does well, we will all share in the winnings equally. John will get a percentage to be determined (I propose 40%) and we will split the rest. If he wins, we all make money. Okay, who's interested, let me know.

It's probably best for those who are going to Derby City like me, but that is not a requirement. You can post on here or PM me if you prefer privacy.

Jay,

The 10 shareholders will each recieve $1080...is my math right on this.

Aaron, with a 60-40 split, each shareholder would get back $1,200 if John were to win outright. Their initial $300 plus a 6% share of $15,000, which is $900. Our initial $3,000 outlay comes off the top, and we split all the winnings with John 60-40.

This way, if there is a deal made between the final two players, the shareholders would be assured of getting their original money back first.

If you need some small contributors, I would likely put in a few bucks...We have collectively sponsored 2 USOpen trips and I(got it in 2005) would be happy to return the favor.

Let us know if this change is needed.

We need to raise $3,000 to make this happen. It was my idea to sell ten shares at $300 apiece. We have sold three so far this morning.

I'm in as I have great respect for Johns' pool game and average respect for his golf game ;)

But seriously, I think this would be fun to sweat, I won't be at DCC (haven't been since the first one in 1999!) but look forward to the action.

I propose a NO-CHOPPING rule.

Winner take all.

Why? If they chop the 18k:

Each winning side gets 9K.
John gets 40% of 9K = $3600.00
Balance of $5400.00 / 10 Shares = $540.00/share

So for each share of $300.00, we get back $540.00

Less than double.

No chop. No deals. 1 winner. Throw the loser some jelly.

Actually, in this scenario John and his backers would get 9K, the backers would then get back their $3000 off the top and then John gets 40% of $6000 which is $2400 and each backer gets their $300 plus 10% of $3600 which is $360 plus their original $300 for a return of $660 (not $540) still a pretty good deal for sweating some action (did I say that in one sentence?) :)

This is correct. We now have five of the ten people we need to stake John in the Ring Game. Five spots still open!

There's nothing like a little Irish humor to lighten up the atmosphere..

:p :p :p

Seven shares sold and three left. I will not ask anyone to make payment until December, since Derby City is not until early January. I will need all the shareholders addresses and e-mail information (phone numbers also).

If we win any money, I will pay any shareholders who are there, and all others will have to wait until after Derby City is over and I return home. I intend to put the screen names of the shareholders on here when we reach ten. I'm sure John appreciates this greatly.

Jay I'll take one of the spots if it's winner take all.

Maybe something could be worked out so that the people that staked John could get a copy of the match for free somehow. That'd be nice.

I am going to try my best to be at the Derby for a at least 3 days.

I can't make that guarantee. It is scheduled as Winner Take All, but every year the last two players have made a deal. I always leave that decision up to them.
