a good 5 dollar limit small stakes poker player can make top twenty pool money every day only betting 5 bucks.

think it isnt broken.
ya think? i know more than a few who've tried that route and its not anywhere near as easy or productive as many think. i get your point but don't think poker is some automatic path to decent income. nobody's making decent money at poker betting 5/10 a day.

I think some of you are overestimating how many people really LOVE pool. We often lose sight of this on here because we are all wired a little differently. DCC has taken the code that several amateur promoters cracked long ago -- put the event in a casino and they will come. You will always have the fence sitters, that decide to come simply because it's a two birds with one stone scenario. DCC would be gambling by moving their event out of a casino. :)
they drew big fields at the old joint. biggest reason for move was security. having a casino was gravy but i don't think it being at a casino is vital to DCC's survival. definitely needs a hotel and anymore most big hotel/event venues have a casino so just by default it will probably be at a hotel/casino.

Nashville and Washington DC

1800 to 2200 rooms !

Plenty of ballroom space!

MGM grand casino 2 miles away!

Expensive......

Plenty of sightseeing......

Allows the event to grow! But, profit margins are in jeopardy!

Capped at 500 rooms currently. But could go to double, triple or more!

Can go to 100 tables versus 50 !!!

This business model relies on room night stays! A.ka. profit sharing! More rooms More money !

that stakes a very good player at that level can easily make 200 a day. and that is far more than most pro pool players ever hope to clear per year at that rate. and about the same rate for a 1,2 blind no limit 100 buyin game. if the games are good. you may have to travel just like a pool player.

so many and rarely any are good enough. same as few are good enough to be a pro pool players.

the point is to show maybe why many pool players are playing poker or other things as pool only provides a meager living for anyone but the top couple players. and that's a shame.

Hell, they could partner with MR and have a bunch of events there. They could have a camera over every table for viewing and Pros could actually move there and have a home where they make a big portion of their money. They'd be able to set up training sessions before and after events.

There's no reason that I can think of for diamond not to do this. It also let's them basically corner the market for their tables. Nashville area would be fantastic, so would Vegas. Chattanooga is a good small city that seems very safe.

Oh yeah, don't forget the 10'ers

Well, maybe try thinking a little harder?

Diamond needs to bite the bullet and build a tournament facility with 100 9' and 100 7' tables, I'm sure it can be written off as promotion.

They can rent it to all the various leagues for end of year events - SBE, etc.

Get a good location with a bunch of hotels, restaurants etc and have big events there all year, no need to set up and tear down.

Have it open as a poolroom, just block a huge portion of it off for heating/cooling
Do you have any clue what the $ construction costs these days of buying the property and building a facility the size you suggest in a prime commercial location would be?

We just received bids for having our poolroom’s approximate 10,000 square foot driveway and parking lot repaved, which holds less than 30 cars. $100,000 was the lowest bid!

repaved or torn up and totally redone?. just repaved at 10 bucks a foot is getting taken . get some better bids.

15 years ago when i did my one mile long driveway i got some crazy bids like yours. i went to the top big commercial road builder and asked for a bid and told them they could do it between jobs whenever they wanted.
my bid was 33,000 for 55,000 sq feet of a full 3 inch to 5 inch in some places asphalt. took a few months to happen but they did it in two days.

also some can use recycled asphalt when they get if and repave very cheaply and it looks just fine and holds up.

Torn up and totally redone and reinforced for heavy dump trucks that often park here to eat lunch. It’s been 30 years.

I gotta assume those companies in your area are all so busy after the disaster they just don’t need the work right now. In time that price should drop a lot.

Greg often told me that what he liked about the casino was it was open 24/7, there were rooms, offered food (sort of), and had security.

You hold it somewhere else and you lose some of those elements.

chris really see if you need all that as dump trucks have their weight spread out and can be on any regular parking lot. at least do more research and dont take what the contractors that are bidding tell you. maybe its insurance money you have to spend. you could have one area set aside for large vehicles if you want. whatever.

back to diamond where their factory is they can expand kitty corner maybe and building just a warehouse commercial type building can be extremely large under a million bucks. they have hotels and food close by within a few miles. could easily have most all the tournaments wanting to use it. its a thought for them and not even have to move equipment or deal with casinos.
