Desert Shootout

I was informed a little over an hour ago that this event will now take place at Kolbys, I am not sure of all the details but I hope this helps anyone planning on playing or watching
Thanks
Tony Crosby

The event will be moved due to problems at the host hotel. Fortunately the owners of Kolby's offered their location. It is a very nice large room with nearly 9,000 feet of floor space. We will be using ten Gold Crowns to play it on, and should have comfortable seating for 250+ people.

Kolby's is located at 1301 E. University in Tempe. There is a Quality Inn right next door with good rooms for 75 a nite. I will do my level best to make sure this event comes off as scheduled. I feel a responsibility to all the players who are traveling long distances at great expense.

Just spoke to the "Jay Monster" (He is TD for this event) and he assured me he would make it work. A daunting task on such short notice, and moving to a smaller venue, But if anyone can pull it off, it would be our hero, the Gingerbread Man !!!

First a big thanks to all the people who have been productively spreading the word of the sudden venue and hotel change for the Shootout. It is in the best interest of pool, the players, the producer (who is an honest to god good guy ). This situation was not caused by Chuck Bobbitt. I want everyone to know that. While yes he is ultimately the person responsible to make sure this event takes place...he has worked his butt of the past 24 hours and has been successful to save the event despite the problems with the Crescent. So...anyone playing or anyone who knows a person who is playing or planning to attend...please let them know immediately. Chuck will have someone at the Crescent redirecting as well as is trying to have someone at each baggage claim at all the terminals at the Phoenix airport with signs directing.

The only difference that will take place at Kolby's vs. Crescent is that the event will be played on Gold Crowns not Diamonds...they did consider moving all the GC's out, but that was not ideal as so much else had to be accomplished in a short time frame. The venue is not as oppulent, but that is just frosting...the added money still exists, the players still exist, the game still exists.

It is true...a persons character is demonstrated when the going gets rough...do they tuck tail and run when a stumbling block comes their way or do they become stronger, not whine, and get moving to find solutions.

Chuck Bobbitt showed his character in the past 24 hours when he was faced with a problem...that he has great character and is s fighter to make everything right...and he is succeeding.

again here is the address of the new location and hotel:

Now playing at Kolby's Billiards (Which is next to the Quality Inn)

Hotel: Quality Inn
1375 E University
Tempe, Az
480-774-2500
75 + tx

Bruce (Coco)...be part of the solution...not a negative destructive force.

Amen, so many people are so quick to point the finger here, which is unacceptable. Chuck is a stand up guy and my hat is off to him for everything he does for the pool community.

For those of you that want the real story, just ask him, I'm sure he will be glad to tell you. Or, you can call me directly and I will give it to you. Maybe he will ask what you are doing to support pool in the community. I would venture to say it does not compare. As Holly stated "be a part of the solution!"

I for one think it is awesome that it moved to Kolby's. Now it is about 10 seconds from where I live. :) I know it is selfish :) I really don't care why it was moved or anything like that. I am just glad it is here in the Valley - no matter where it is played.

Good words Holly and Dennis! Who has done more for pool in our part of the world than Chuck or Ron ? Rotten break with the Crescent bowing out at the last minute. But Chuck and Jay will make it work!!!!
Greg is taking a big hit too, as the tables were allready here. These guys
deserve our support, not our critisism.

The Desert Shoot out team did a great Job yesterday to get this tournament back on track, I must admit I was a little unsure about it but the guy just moved on meeting and greeting the players.
They had a nice crowd in fro the Pro Am last night which was a lot of fun.
They also set up bleachers in the pool room which would probably hold a 1000 spectators.

The field drew 64 players so thats another great number for an event.
There were some great first round matchups as well with Corey Deuel v Dennis Hatch, Immonen V Reyes I aslo drew Stevie Moore.

Once again Congrats to the desert shoot out and Jay for calming a lot of pro players nerves down.

Stopped in for a few hours last night and was amazed at the instant transformation. Probably going to be a better event at Kolby's than it
would have been at the Crescent. Better atmosphere for sure.
Hat's off to all the guys who made it work. Didn't know they were only
going to have 7 tables at the Crescent, now they have 11 to play on.
Jay and Bull will make it run smooth. Let's all support it.

Hey Dick, you going to be there today? If so be sure to say hi if you see me. I'll be the tall skinny one that is trying to watch all the tables at the same time.
