Just think, your gear doesn't have a non stop air exchange system constantly sucking the smoke filled air into it and expelling it back out like a filter. Your lungs, on the other hand...
I don't go to places that have smoke. I feel it to obviously after.
That being said, isopropyl alcohol works pretty well for the cues. Make sure to get the 91% stuff. You can buy it at CVS for like a buck something. It is a good general purpose cue cleaner.
As for the case, not sure on that one. I personally wouldn't want to spray Fabreeze in there. It doesn't really eliminiate odor, just masks it. And like you say, who knows what it does to the cues. I am assuming the interior is not removable? Having had a pool case in many a disgusting smoke filled death chamber, I've honestly never really noticed a great deal of accumulation *inside* the case. More so the outside.
