OK, this has been discussed in another thread briefly & now we're going to go for it. A few of us DFW area folks are looking to meet up & possibly play some kind of mini tournament. The venue will be Volcano's in Hurst on Sunday May 6.

We can start anytime from 11am onwards depending on what works best for everyone. Donovan suggested this format:

8 ball: Race to 3
9 ball: Race to 5
If there is a tie then we could finish off with a banks game.

Anyone is welcome, and any suggestions, questions or ideas would be great. I spoke with Donovan about this last night & we were thinking we could just do this for fun or maybe just throw $10 in each. Depending on how many people are interested we can always try to pull in some of our league guys to help cover table fees (we get free table time for each member & 1 guest each.)

AZBer's interested so far are Samiel, Maniac, 9ballJJ, Donovan & myself. If you like the sound of this then come on down! Should be a blast.

If I've missed anything I'm sure Donovan will fill in the blanks!:D

Volcano's is located in the strip mall behind the gas station on the corner of Norwood and Harwood. You just can't make coincidences like that up. Although, I am surprise the street names were not Curly Maple and Ebony. ;)

The food there is really good! They do serve both kinds of beverages. I like the idea of everyone throwing in $10 and maybe do a 1st and 2nd place 70/30 split or something. If anyone has any other ideas or is planning on coming let us know, so we can get enough other people to join us to keep it as inexpensive as possible. We will keep the ringers out, except of course, for Samiel. ;)

This should be a really fun! And hell if we have enough time, maybe you guys can talk me into being hung up by the dart boards and get some target practice in. :eek:

Of course you like this idea ;) . I've already resigned myself to the fact that $10 of my money is gonna end up in somebody elses pocket by the end of the day on May 6th :o !!! It's o.k. though, that's not too high of a price to pay to meet some of the folks here on AZb. Maybe we oughta kick back some of the proceeds to the player with the worst record of the day. Kind of a "consolation" prize to help buffer the effects of all the good-natured ribbing he/she is gonna catch here on this site for "sucking big-time" at the table. I might actually finish "in the money" in this category :D !!!

According to Donovan, Samiel is the player we have to watch out for. I think this is the real reason Donovan decided against putting straight pool on the menu! :D
 
Geez... you guys make me out to be some kind of monster. :p Anyone who met me at DCC 2006 knows that my game isn't that great, especially straight pool. In fact, when Donovan and I played, my best run was only 25 or so against him... and it was on a generous 9' table too! :p I'm definitely a C player. :p

Besides, with short races on 8' tables, anyone could bring home the bacon! I'd think Donovan might be the favorite since we're going to playing on his home turf! :p

In any case, I look forward to meeting everyone! It will be a fun day for all!
 
Oh, be warned, the tables at Volcano's play like glass... they're so fast! At least, that's how they were the last time I played there!
 
It looks like I'm not going to be able to make it after all guys. I could maybe stop by there when it first starts and meet everyone, but I can't stay long. :(

That sounds like a pretty cool idea I will have to see if I can make it. I think that I have a captains/co-captians tournament for my league that day.

Maybe at Pockets. But I'll still try and make it out there if this starts at 11:00 and hang out for a little while.
 
I do tease Samiel about that day we played. Samiel can be beat. He is a good player, but not untouchable. Sorry if I keep building you up brother, but you do play much better 14.1 than I do. :)

Maniac, first off, I don't expect to win anything. If I did, I would just be buying a round with it. This is all about having a good time. And for everyone else, if you can't come and play, then hell yeah, come and hang out anyway. Just meeting everyone and BS'ing should be worth the trip. I expect alot of ribbing and joking to be happening. :p

Oh, and one more thing........Ade, you are going down! :D

I am in the process of moving to Dallas. I have been commuting since November. This is one of the weekends that I decided to stay through the weekend due to work requirements. Therefore, if work does not interfere I may show up, as well.
