Diamond Ball Polisher - broken or operator error

I just bought my new Diamond Ball Polisher. I've never used it before and it has no instructions but it seems like you just plug it in and turn the dial. I did and the only thing that happened is the motor started making a humming noise. The balls didn't move.

Am I missing a step or does this sound like a defective unit?

Cool. Just wanted to double check. I'm sure there's a loose wire somewhere. The engine makes some ticking noise but nothing happens.

I reached out to the seller and am confident we'll get it straight. No big deal. Thanks guys!

Open it up. Maybe a fan belt fell off (if there is one). I'm sure you'll find out what's wrong by opening it up.

There's that, but being unused, I think speaking with seller is the appropriate first step.

One thing though; when there are balls in it and you start it up, sometimes the divider won't spin. Just press the divider down in the center and the friction between base platter and divider will then be sufficient to start (and thereafter, keep) spinning.

This happens when balls are sticky, usually from newly applied polish. Sometimes, from going too long between polishes.

.

Not sure about pressing/touching a part that might start turning. Would not do that. Try contacting Diamond...maybe they'll give you support. Hopefully something can be done other than sending it for service.

Definitely agree with input from seller or mfg is first step in the case at hand.

The issue I tried to describe happens with a normally functioning polisher. There isn't enough friction between base plate and divider to overcome the sticky balls pressing against the outer edge.

Pressing the divider down increases friction and lets the divider spin with the base plate.

Might be a bad timer.

I had to replace mine after awhile. You can get one on fleabay for a few bucks and it’s an easy swap. I bought the five minute timer v the long ass one it came with.

With no balls in the polisher, do the platters spin when you turn the timer on? And if the platters do spin, do they start out slow then speed up? I know this ball polisher like I know the back of my hand which is why I'm asking.

Forget the 50 questions, just call me, 702-927-5689...I invented it.

Check carpet on the sides that it isn't binding on the bottom. If it it pull it off and trim it some. When I redid mine it was binding and wasn't spinning.

It's a grwat machine built like a tank.
