Diamond Bill's One-Pocket Secret

The gist of the shot is this. It is said that Efren played the shot or something similar....

One pocket. Efren is corner hooked on the short rail in his own pocket. His opponent needs one and has a ball very close to his pocket. There is no reasonable kick to the opponent's pocket, or the ball is too deep. The shot could be with just the one ball on the table but in the P&B diagram, some other balls are on the table, perhaps to confuse the solver or block paths. There were some balls along the short rail, one on the spot, maybe one blocking a 3-rail kick.

What did Efren do?

Shot into the nub and jumped over to hit the ball away from the pocket? Another possibility is shooting into the long rail as close to the object ball as possible, given the corner hook, with a ton of reverse english and 2-3 rail over to the object ball. I assume you saying there no reasonable kick excludes that option.

Is this where Efren rolls perfectly onto the spot so when you spot a ball, the Q ball is wedged between the ball on the spot and the ball that gets spotted

Rolled the cueball onto the ball on the spot so when a ball spots up the opponent is hooked.
