Diamond Pro-Am question

I was at the Tunica tournament, you should have seen how high the balls were bouncing off the rails there. There was one table a Pro was on and it was so bad, he went to get Paul Smith after his match. Paul checked the table over, of course there was nothing wrong with it, it was brand new. These were Blue tables btw.

I won't question your experience, it has to be a specifications issue.

Whether they came from the factory like that or is the result of setup, I think nose height has to be the issue.

Any contaminant that existed in a quantity sufficient enough to redirect a pool ball would have to be clearly visible?

It’s Diamond. That’s why so many people have different experiences with them. It’s just the way they are. Yours plays great. Others play like crap. I really think it’s the environment (cloth, ball, weather, etc), not variations from the factory. From the factory, they are all very consistent.

It’s just like this thread. Everyone is saying something is wrong with the setup/tolerances on this specific table. The same thing happens every diamond thread.

If we do ever meet up, I’ll take you to Mr Cues 2 in Atlanta. There are 2 Blue Diamonds there that will make your head spin how short and bouncy they play. Then 10 feet away on a GC4 you’ll be right at home.
 
You’ll play the CB 2 rails out of the corner on a standard 9 ball shot and end up near the side pocket and won’t know what hit you.
 
Its the set-up. I play on original Red label Pro's that were used on Camel Tour and yes they bank a tad short but no hop. I've played on recent build Blue label P'Ams(9&7ft) and i've yet to see a ball hop. Ever. Its has to be a case of bad set-up.

No sir. Were you at Tunica? They were brand new BLUE. Factory staff set up the tables and was there running the tournament. Paul Smith was there with all his levels checking the tables. So that rules out bad setup, or old worn out tables.

I watched a bank pool 3k match between Manny Chaou and I think Shannon Murphy. This was in the second building they had for the gambling, not the main tournament building. The balls hopped EVERY bank. They finished the set and both said they didn't want to play again due to the hop, it was that bad. They hopped so much we could all hear in the room the balls bounce back onto the table after hitting the rail. Now, this is an extreme case, I've never seen another event like it.

Look one post up, Tim just replied that the tables are new.

It's not a setup issue. It's something inherently about the table that when it's in different environments it changes a lot. That is why some people here love them, and some hate them, IMO.

I've also played on ones that I thought were quite nice. Markely Billiards in a Philly suburb just got 6 or so brand new 9' Diamonds last year. I played a one pocket match on one a few months ago, and was pleasantly surprised that they played well.

The two tables in Atlanta Mr Cues were brand new 7 or 8 years ago. They remodeled the pool room to add them, and called the section "the shark pit". It was right after the dymondwood fire. One has that black top they were using a few years, and the other still had the dymondwood top, but both are Blue label.

The other reason it's rarely a "setup" issue with Diamond tables is there is no setup. They come assembled from the factory, including the rails and the cloth.

I'd bet dollar to doughnuts, if @Black-Balled took his brand new Diamond that he loves and put it in Mr Cues 2 in Atlanta, right next to the other 2 Diamonds there, it would play completely differently than at his home in VA. And conversely, if he brought his GC4 that he sold to that room in Atlanta, it would play very close to when it was in his home in VA. UNLESS, Diamond has made further changes to the Blue label in the past couple of years. I am not aware of any since 2009 or whenever the Blue's came out. But I don't know for fact.
