Diamond Professional rail cloth

A question for the table mechanics...when replacing rail cloth on a Diamond Professional is it necessary to completely disassemble the rails from the skirt, corners etc. Those fancy screw connectors on the Diamond are a PITA.

Secondly is there a problem using T50 staples for the rail cloth, the new harbor freight stapler only accepts these. What staple leg length is recommended for going into a maple Diamond rail?

Thanks for any advice.

Yes, remove the skirts and corner blocks, but no the actual rails don't need to be taken apart at the corners. Lenght of staple legs should be 1/4"...and it's best to use 1/2" wide crown staples as they provide a wider hold down of the cloth with each staple used, resulting in using less staples per rail when compared to using skinner staples. The sub-rail where the cloth is staples to in the cloth relief is poplar not maple, so there's no problem inserting the staples.

That gun Harbor Freight sells was supposed to be a replacement for the older grey model they used to sell that apparently got recalled even though it works amazingly. It's still marked as a "wide-crown" stapler. They looked at me like I was stupid when I took one back. They asked why I was returning it and I said "it's not what it says it is." Dude said "Yes it is, it says right here it's a wide crown stapler." I said "Ok, you're the expert...show me where to insert these wide-crown staples." Yeah the gun isn't wide enough. He said "it takes the T-50's that we sell here". He apparently didn't understand why I wanted a wide-crown stapler that took the wide-crown Duo-Fast staples that I have two cases of in my shop.

Oh that and when I decided even though it didn't take my staples, I'd keep it as a backup....it jammed the second T-50 it fired. So I returned it for real that time and will never buy another one. Still trying to find a gun as good as the old H.F. ones. Any suggestions, anyone?

Grex would be my choice. 50AD is ideal.
The HF grey framed was replaced because there was no safety on it.

if you don't have an air compressor, this gun works good for recovers and is fairly cheap.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Another quick question for the mechanics out there...when following the Simonis DVD for bed cloth install can I follow the staple down method shown on a GC4 pattern and stretch index exactly for a 860HR glue down on Diamond Professional?
Thanks again,
Steve
