I purchased a new DST after last year's Expo and love it. The table plays great. My only complaint is with the black stained leather lined pockets. If a ball is hit even moderately hard into a pocket a black scuff mark appears on the ball that is difficult to remove and is best removed with liquid ball cleaner. Obviously this is a hassle and has to be done quite often. Does anyone else with this table also have this problem and if so what can be done to correct it? Thanks.

I have a proam and I do indeed have this problem. There are a couple threads on this already. I believe realkingcobra mentioned saddle soap or something. Do a search in the table mechanic section and I believe you will find it.

I've been meaning to fix mine but am rather lazy.
 
Congrats on the new table you will never look back. As for the pocket marks welcome to the worst part of the Diamond table. here is a thread that may help.

Even though these marks are a nuisance they will go away sooner or later if you use the product that is in the thread I would suggest putting on at least 3 coats and let it dry well between each coat. Be very careful when applying it for if you make a mistake and get it on you cloth it will make the marks on the balls seem insignificant:wink: One more thing that i did was I took a couple of paper towels and rubbed the inside of the pockets where the balls make contact. Do this with allot of elbow grease and do it several times before you seal it. Good luck Bogeyfree.

Hmm...interesting...Kiwi black liquid shoe polish huh? Ok I'll give it a try then. Just thought I'd post a pic of my table.

When Glenn set up my Diamond, he put some type of leather dye (black) on the pockets. One hint of advice, be careful when doing this, because the dye will drip out onto your felt.

Unfortunately for me, when Glenn was covering my rails, i was going around and hitting the pockets with the dye. Not realizing it, the dye was dripping all over the felt, on the rails that he had already completed. He just calmly looked at me and started laughing and said "start pulling some stapes kid", as he had to redo the rails. And he didn't charge me a dime for them to be redone. :) Thanks Glenn a.k.a. realkingcobra.

smart table

Saddle Soap works real well to help that problem out. We did it to all the tables at the room i used to manage. Took care of the issue.

I'm a little confused now. You said Glen put a "black dye" on your pockets. In one of his previous posts (when I followed the link supllied earlier in this thread) Glen says to use the Kiwi liquid shoe polish and not the dye, so now I'm not sure which to use. Maybe he can chime in here again?

I believe that's what it was, the black i Kiwi shoe polish, not dye.

Bogey free, you have to excuse Prince. He spends too much time shooting pool and knows not the difference between dye and shoe polish lol;). Hope ya get the kinks worked out.
If ya guys forked out a lil extra dough, ya could have the Diamond Pro. No scuffs on my balls!!!

I use mink oil, which is actually a paste... and I rarely get a black mark any more. I just make sure to rub it in well and then wipe off the excess with a paper towel.
 
Use the Kiwi black liquid shoe polish, when it drys it leaves like a plastic finish on the leather:D...NOT the liquid dye...LOL...it'll come off on the balls;)

The Instant Wax Shine and the Premiere Shine are both liquid polishes. Do you have a preference on what might work better? Thanks.
 
Ok thanks Ray. I see you used the Premiere polish. Now I see Grady was happy using the saddle soap. Hmm...now I'm not sure which to try. I hate to do anything that's gonna mess up my beautiful table.....

Yeah, as you noticed I asked Grady for some pictures, but apparently he is a drive by poster! imo
