Diamonds first CHALLENGE MATCH

As we were eating breakfast Sunday mornig, the first Challenge was born and could be an intresting one.

Greg {lightsout} Sullivan has challenged Harry {the Horse} Platis to play some full rack banks. A $5000 set, 10 ahead, and at Diamond Billiards.

Greg wasted no time in getting ready. As soon as the first table was set up Sunday he went to his truck and donned his cue { he just happened to bring it} and started warming up playing Bill Incordona some friendly one pocket. Billy said he was impressed with just how cagy Greg was with some pretty nifty moves.

Redbird and I had to get home, but we called about half way home and heard they were still playing and it was pretty close.

Bill also stated theat he saw this match as a 6-5 pick em.

We are awaiting Harry's reply to this challenge.
 
I'm lost as usual but what is Diamond Billiards you are talking about, is this a new room owned and operated somewhere by Greg or just a tournament site where they are setting up some tables? Please inform the uneducated masses (me) whats happening. Thanks --Leonard

There is a Diamond Billiards in Louisville, Ky. Not sure if this is what they were talking about? But Diamonds is a great place to gamble at, they have 2 tables away from everything else just for gambling.

Full rack banks, 10 ahead!? How many days are they setting aside for that contest?:D I too would like to hear more about the new Dallas "action" room.

There is anoother thread about the "New Room in Dallas". I just bumped it.

A 10 ahead in full rack banks could get a bit lengthy. I'm sure the match will get tweeked.

Maybe they should just play one pocket, a race to 10 for the $5,000.

Those two guys aren't getting any younger and each could afford the bet so let's see someone win the money without their opponent keeling over from exhaustion or the two of them agreeing to quit after three or four hours of play.

Whose your pick in the race of one pocket?

At 10 ahead banks, I will bet on the doctor that treats at least one of them.

I'm sure this match will be tweeked, assuming Harry accepts. Harry is a gamey kind of guy and this will not be a cake walk for either.

Greg is competitive also and will not go down without a fight.

I watched Greg and Bill Incordona playing some 1-pocket Sunday after the table set and he has been around the block a time or two. It is hard to play when you have driven 750 miles and then worked for two days.

This could get very intresting though.

If I were there and gambling I would take Greg.

I agree, way too long for two guys who are not full time pool players. I could understand maybe 6 ahead.

I'll take Harry. I don't believe Greg plays enough pool to play 10 ahead. When you get into the championship rounds besides being the best player you must have stamina an know you have it. Either a draw or Harry in twelve hours an some change.

After watching Harry play at the 2006 DCC, I'm inclined to think he may have the better end of it. I saw him make some very good banks. However, Greg has seen some great competition and I've never seen him play in person. I'd like to see this match.
 
I talked to Dan Louie about him playing Harry (up at Dr. Cue's I think). He stated that Harry was a better banker then he was. He said he just had to bank and duck, and play position on him to beat him.

Yes, I am talking about Dan Louie, former world champion, saying that an attorney was a better banker than he.

That's because he never has to bank, he plays such perfect speed and position!! :p

I don't like Harry 's chances at full rack - he needs to change it to short racks. ;)

True. I saw Dan play four rail shape on a ball that had a two inch wide shape zone against Shane Van Boening. That was on cloth that I felt was a little fast.

A lot more often. In fact, I'm moving to Dallas in a couple of weeks. just to keep an eye on you. No more boxing matches though..
