Dick McGiveron Dies

Wow, what a shock, first Martha Hartsell and now Dick. He was a beautiful man and I will miss him. I was on his team in the 80's in some big tournament and we won and that was something we would always rehash whenever we saw each other.

RIP Dick, you are loved.

First of all Linda I want you to know that I miss you! I love this picture that was posted of Dick. I feel like we have just started to clear our eyes after losing Larry and now Dick. I really hope to see you soon Linda.. hugs

Hi Cheryl,

My name is Karina Harris (use to be Jones). I'm Rick Jones's daughter. I don't know if you remember him or not but I look forward to meeting you. Your father was a very dear man to me while trying to play pool :)
My thoughts, prayers, and big big hugs go out to you and Justin.

Even though I didn't know him, it's sad to read about the passing of Dick. He must have been a great guy to have such a nice family.

I recentlly bought Dick's old wedge #2 Palmer from his daughter, Cheryl. I thought it was just a cue he had, but now realize that it was actually on of his playing cues. It's being restored right now. Just as soon as I get it back, The Palmercollector will have a page for Dick Megiveron.

Our BCAPL office got this news earlier today.

I am sad to report that 9 Ball Player, Dick Megiveron, died this morning about 7:30am at St Peter's Hospital in Olympia, Washington. As many of you know, he had a five-way bypass ten years ago, and last Saturday his heart just quit working. He is survived by his son - Justin, daughter - Cheryl, and sister - Annie. The funeral will be next Monday or Tuesday.

I met Dick back in late 80's - in fact he worked for us in managing the Anchorage Billiard Palace. I swore his son's name was Jordan and he was around 4 or so. (at the time)

At one time Dick managed the Billiard Tavern in San Diego and played pretty sporty.

I think he opened a couple of different places in the Tacoma area. Red Barn comes to mind.

I am sure a lot of others know a whole lot more about Dick.

It seems everyone is dieing. . . .

This is sad,

I heard him of him many times but dont remember if i met him. but his name is familiar as anyone in pool is to me.

I went to Billiard Tavern a few times but it was after it lost the players/action. i was new to pool 1985 and could tell that it was a great players room, but sadly by then it was empty, but I could smell the $$$ of past days. I went there on several road trips from Sacramento but each time I went it had slipped a bit more. It was one hell of a room.

I have this old picture of Dick. He used to come to the tournaments at the Jointed Cue in Sacramento in the late 70s. Picture is from 78 or 79.
