Dick Van Dyke - The Hustler

That was very cool. I grew up on Dick Van Dyke and Laura! :p

I thought the pool hustler character was Lou Butera, but it was a character actor named Phil Leeds.

I like these pool video clips. What an age we live in with YouTube!

I just discovered this lovely cowboy tune called "Cash on the Light": http://video.google.com/videoplay?d...=41&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=7

And then there's this incredible pool shot knocking in all the dominoes: http://video.google.com/videoplay?d...387&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0

Cute movie..I think Lou Butera (Machine Gun) got lesser hair than Blackie..

Thanks a lot for posting it. I am like JAM, I grew up on Rob and Laura. I remember watching that episode when it first aired. This could be a good detective project for JAM and her lesser half and other players from the LA area during this time period, 1960s.

The pool choreographer for this episode was left handed and banked pretty well. If you look at the 19:24 point you will notice that Blackie suddenly plays a cross side bank, left handed. It is obvious that the left handed guy is a player by his premium stroke. Now here is the pozer. Who was the left handed pool choreographer for this episode? You would assume he was living in the LA area at the time. Jay,,,,,,,,,who do you think it might have been? Perhaps,,,,,,,,,,Kelly??? Replay the 19:24 point and tell me who's stroke that is???

It is very unusual that they didn't put the name of the technical advisor for the pool scenes in the credits at the end. I watched them in their entirety.

This may go down as another one of pool's unsolved mysteries, like what does TK6 stand for on Paul Newman's white Cadillac in TCOM! :D

You know you're a poolist, if I may coin a term, if you answer all of these questions correct: http://www.funtrivia.com/playquiz/quiz155201ca008.html

Piece of cake for me! LOL! :D :D :D

The only one I missed was Iggy Pop but I am a die hard fan. As far as the TK6 on the Caddy??? I thought everyone knew that. It's how tall Tommy Kennedy wishes he was.

I remember seeing Iggy Pop's name in the credits is how I remembered.

I'm going to now hijack the thread and switch gears for a moment because I'm procrastinating my work today, a difficult job about bladder problems. :o

So how many actual pool players were there in TCOM, speaking and non-speaking roles? I'll start the list and see who can add any to it! :p

Mike Sigel
Keith McCready :D
Grady Mathews
Howard Vickery
Jimmy Mataya
Steve Mizerak
Louie Roberts
Mark Jarvis
Waterdog

Have I missed any?

Thanks Neil! Yea! I have Rep!

I'm glad everyone enjoyed it. I haven't had a chance to watch the whole thing yet but plan to tonight. I don't know if I could concentrate on pool with Mary Tyler Moore walking around. It would be tough. ;)

I think Mary Tyler Moore / Laura was as hot as could be possible for the 60's!

Anyway, my puter is very balky at streaming videos. Would have taken hours to see the whole Dick V.D. episode. Any suggestions to improve the viewing of streaming UTube videos???

That was a blast to watch! Aren't these online video archives amazing?

The internet is really coming of age. I find myself watching more and more shows on my PC.

I dont know who the technical director was but the actors name who played Blackie was Phil Leeds. The TD could have been an old timer by the name of Sax Del Porto. An old time pool pro who use to work at the studios as well. His son was a prop man and could handle a cue real well. One time he was getting razzed by one of the grips about his athletic prowess and was challenged by one of the grips to any game he wanted to play. Of course his son was good with the cue and said OK 8 ball. And proceedede to shut the loud mouth up.

I had a good look last night, even searched my antique books for pool notables but couldn't figure out the least..if I were to remotely throw in a guess I would've thought it was the late Steve Mizerak but I'm not sure he was involved in any film making biz. My only basis is because Steve is also a lefty. My second guess is that my first guess is wrong.
